Hands on hatching and help

400

This is the beak of my duckling, i saw his movement in this morning but dont see any internal pip yet! How long do i have to wait until i assist it?

That could be an internal pip. It could take 24 hours or so before it pips the shell, then another 24 before it starts to zip out. Ducks can take longer than chicks. Please don't rush to assist.

I have had my first successful hatch yesterday! Some April Fool's! At this point I have 2 light brahma, 3 silver laced wyandottes, and 2 barred rocks (or maybe those numbers are mixed up as I can't tell them apart thru window???). Anyways, I have 7 out with another few zipping right along. Just wanted to share as I am so excited!

If you see the beak in the air cell, which will look like a moving shadow in there, he's internally pipped. It looks like that might have been the case from your earlier photo :)

What do I do?!?! Is there anything I can do? Can it be cut? Or pull the leg through BUT wouldnt that pull on the tummy?

Is there anyway you can get it off the leg without pulling it or cutting it? It's not going to finish absorbing if it's wrapped, but pulling it can cause more damage. If you leave it alone it might dry up, it doesn't look like a lot there?

My hatch is complete. I ended up with 7 Golden Cuckoo Marans (1 didn't make it), 3 Crested Polish (2 didn't make it) and 1 Lavender Orpington.

One of my Golden Cuckoos is quite a story. It was pipped with most of the beak out and then stopped for almost 12 hours. I tried tapping on the shell, gently touching the beak trying to it to move and nothing so I thought it was dead. I decided to eggtopsy so I could try and see why it didn't make it out. I got the top part of the shell off, no movement, sounds, nothing, but the eyes were wide open. Hmmmm, I got the rest of the shell off and all of a sudden its legs stretched out and then the wings spread out and it started screaming!

I left it in the incubator to dry and it is in the brooder now doing fine. I am going to get in the habit of doing eggtopsy on dead ones now. What a surprise!

I candled my 11 Welsh Harlequin Duck eggs last night and there was movement in all of them. 4 are now pipped and 1 is already half zipped around!

We really need to get into a place of our own with a little land! I was offered some sebbie eggs for some silkie chicks. I want sebbies!! Lol No way I can have geese here, but maybe I'll have a source for the future.....
