Hands on hatching and help

Hi. I have a turkey egg that is currently 4 days late from hatch date. It externally pipped yesterday, and has begun zipping about two hours ago (almost 3). Is it normal for it to be taking so long to zip? My others turkeys usually don't take that long (1-1.5 hours at most). I just don't know whether or not if I should help it by taking some shell off. How long should I wait
If it stalls out and gets stuck during zipping, then it does need some help. They should never stop during zipping, it's a sign that they've gotten stuck. You may want to give it a hand.

x2!

Some how I've got my dates mixed up on my lockdown for all my ducklings. Calls came on time but my black east inside hatched on time but I had it marked due next week. Same with my Welsh Harlequins. I thought lockdown was sue next week for them. Woke up this morning to an external pip and two internal pips. I'm sure I got my dates wrong since the others hatched healthy and well. Just praying that lack of lockdown doesn't cause any issues..
Dang girl! Go buy yourself a BYC calendar!

I have one of my runner eggs that internally pipped two days ago so I made a safety hole this morning. I can slightly see that it's still yawning so I will leave it to do it's thing. How long should I wait if it doesn't start externally pipping and what shall I do? Missed byc so much :celebrate
I will leave this for the duck people!

If its been internally pipped for 48 hours I would make an external pip for it where you can see the inner membrane . Then give it 24 more hours before you open a bit more to check for veining. If still veins id wait adleast 10 more hours then check again. I just had this problem. I had to help all my calls and the only one I didn't help died.. :( make sure you moisten the membrane with Vaseline or antibiotic ointment without pain reliever.

So the turkey has hatched, but it is very sticky and dry. What should I do for this?
It also has a little bump on its neck and a little red spot on its back.

Hey Blooie! Did you guys ever get the silkies you ordered and if so how are they doing. How is the DH doing? Did you see my last batch of silkies?

They were dropping like flies at first, Amy. So frustrating but they were delayed in shipping so it wasn't horribly surprising. I still have 10 of them left, but lost every one of the Buffs. They are big kids now, living out in the coop without the brooder and integrated very well. King Tut and Smudge don't like them, but they pretty much ignore them unless the dumb chicks get right in their faces! A dog got one of the roosters I gave to the 4H kids, but they ordered chicks (supposedly sexed as pullets, but you know how accurate THAT is) so I'm betting they'll have a replacement rooster on hand!

I did see your chicks and they are gorgeous! There is just no comparing these hatchery chicks with the ones I got from Ruby. Miss her like crazy - and think of her often.

Ken's surgery went well and he's already exceeding the goals set by physical therapy. He's tough! Thanks for asking! I don't post a lot on this thread, but I always follow it!
