Hands on hatching and help

Thank you for the welcome!

I was planning on leaving it since it's day 18 and I did see a bit of movement.

I guess I'll have to spend the day watching the incubator!!

I just wanted to share a neat pic i just took. I just moved this broody yesterday to a private broody area. Two had internally pipped already, but a few looks a few days behind. (she was in with all the others until yesterday, i tried removing eggs daily, but apparently i missed some, and lost track of how long she had been sitting lol)
anyway, i went out to check on her and this is what i see. External pip, exposed to the outside air (granted, it is very hot and humid today, but still). But this is my very best broody momma. Experienced, and almost always hatches every egg possible. She knows what she is doing. :)

No, lol, go, live, do what you have to do. Once the chick internally pips, it can take a good 24 hours before you even see a pip. Just when you check em, keep a look out for pipping where you don't necessarily expect it.

OH NO!! It'll shrink wrap! What is she thinking!

The eggs should be under the hens body or else they'll get stuck in the egg and then you'll have to intervene or they'll die. See if you can get them back under her.

No, I'm pointing out that even broody mommas expose eggs. It's not going to shrink wrap the chick. She has been through this before, she really does know what she is doing.

i was making the point that shrink wrapping doesn't happen in an instant! We can learn from our broodies! :)

X2! :highfive:

I have a broody who regularly stands up during hatch time... and stands the whole time, lol...

Does anyone here have experience with Brinsea Ovation incubators? I had an Octagon before with autohumidity control and that worked perfect but with the Ovation humidity is not going below 40% when I have it set at 33%. Room humidity is 22% so that is not causing it. Vent is open all the way.

P.S. I have 36 Orp eggs on Day 15/16 in 2 incubators. 26 in an Ovation and 10 in a PI-24.
I plan on giving the chicks to 2 broodies when they hatch.
