hands swelling up...need help

Go to the doctor! There are so many things that can cause this, some minor and some major. We want you to be around for a long time to come!

Sorry to bring this up again...but I do have an update..and some more questions...If you all would humor me .

I was finally able to go to the doctor on 10-6-08 and he did 2 simple tests for carpal tunnel . He diagnosed me with it . ( the reason I couldn't go to the doc sooner is because I was working 6 days a wek out of town ) . My hands are not any better with not working . I went to see a specialist who did an electrical test for damaged nerves which turned out negative..Good news...but now they still don't know why I have the pain and swelling . The swelling is only in my thumb , index , and middle fingers . I am currently wearing a wedding ring that is 5x bigger than my origional that I wore in July . I'm going through WC and have been for 2 months......still waiting to get a paycheck and get me to feeling better !!!

Any ideas on what this might be ...anyone else been through this ? I haven't gained any weight or been eating
anything different . Here are some pics .

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Artheritis this summer. They did an MRI on my hand and wrist. My Rheumatologist told me your hand and fingers are the first place it attacks.

You need to go back to the dr.

English Chick, why not glucosamine w/blood pressure meds? I've been taking both for a long time. My wife has some emu oil, and she suggested it too; think I'll try it.
Also, according to my wife, "Dr. Anne", cayanne pepper and turmeric are both good for inflamation, the cause of arthritis pain, but I haven't tried it yet, but will.

If you are on Blood pressure meds the glucosamine and many other herbal remedies will interfere with the prescribed med and can send your BP rocketing, another no no is grapefruit, oil of evening primrose in any form....be careful.

My carpal tunnel flares up a lot at night and my hands get the same way. The pain and swelling often wakes me up and I can barely close my hand/s. They look and feel like yours in your pics. Mine usually shrink back down when circulation resumes, but I can feel a tightness in the skin even at this moment.

I also think I have some sort of arthritis (doc thinks its something that starts with an a- I pay attention well, not), blood tests ruled out Rheumatoid (which my Grandmother suffered terribly with).

I would still guess its a combo of CT and arthritis. I would think if it was anything else, you would have swelling other places (edema), maybe even trouble breathing.

Good luck finding out what is causing it.

Hi! My hands swell and tingle, I am not careful with salt intake though and that is most of my problem.

However if someone rubs my back (shoulders) from outside in only! Then raise and do it again always moving toward the center of your neck/back conection and rubbing small circles right on that center bone. Helps me- by I believe increasing circulation. I learned this from a massage expert. Also my chiropractor said for me to do my hands in ice water then warm water 1 minute in each for 5 times. several times a day- it helps me, takes the swelling down. I use the kitchen sink- ice and water in one side- warm ( as warm as you can stand) water in the other. It might be worth a try to see if it helps you.
