Ironically, they did this a while back and I did indeed have 4 babies from this same pair mating the same way.(They used the pools as well) But for anyone looking at this thread. Pools are not the best for these birds.I just got lucky.Canvasbacks are way better suited for ponds for reproducing. I have to still enclose my new pond into the rest of my avairy on the backside. I havent done it yet cause my son has been putting fish in it and he wants to see what wild ducks come to visit us. So far 4 mallards one day and 6 blue winged teal for a coupla days.Im letting him do what he wants for a while cause Im going to get him to help me do the work when the time comes. hee! hee! Plus he wants Ruddies real bad. A pond is needed for these guys anyway.
