My DD and I went to Rome about 5 years ago. Wasn't there a cross erected for the Christians that died there? As you enter the Colloseum and go to the left, it's half way to the other end where the only seats are left. Does that make sense? You can really see it good from the right side looking over at it. I forgot who erected it but remember the guide saying it had been tore down once and then put up again or something like that. Rome is amazing. What got me was you were walking and touching the same things that the Romans touched. Having that much history around you is overwhelming.

This is a great thread!

There was a cross at the Colosseum erected over where the leader would sit. Not sure the true reason behind it being a cross

Sorry all! This is way late, but glad to see the thread is still going! We have always celebrated the Wheel of the Year, I was doing it when I was a child, before I even knew what it was. I was adopted, but some things just run to deep.

Glad to see there are so many like-minded people on here. Sometimes you forget.

I follow my own path which is a combination of Native American and Celtic...both part of my heritage. It's something that has come natural to me, and my children embrace it much easier than anything else. They are familiar with basic tenets of Christianity, Islam, Judaism and other religions, and are encouraged to visit (when appropriate) and have an understanding and respect for all beliefs.

I do readings and teach classes on Totems, dowsing, and other things. Moving to our property and living in the woods has been the best thing for our family and has really opened the kids' eyes to what is around us.

Blessed be to all!

Namaste,

Shelly

So, so happy to know there are so many of us here!!

One of the biggest issues for me is letting my kids see that there are others who believe as we do. And I am thrilled!!!! to hear that there are pantheists here!!

As someone who is just exploring all of this, I am curious. Do any of you ever experience any prejudices against you all?

Oh yes, I stepped out of the broom closet so to speak and family think im a quack! A dont make it know what my beilifs are but I dont hide it anymore, if they figure it out so be it. My cusin isa sunday school teacher, yeah she figured it out fast and makes fun and laughs at me but oh well such is life

Yes, definitely have received some flak.. The normal 'your going to hell' 'sinner' etc. etc. type of thing. Doesn't really bother me a whole lot anymore, I just feel sad that people are close-minded enough to ridicule others.
One thing I didn't expect was some people fearing me when they find out - I'm not a bad person! At least I don't think so. Lol..

Deb1, did you receive the PM I sent you the other day?

I was raised a Christian and I still consider myself one I suppose, but I've always been drawn to Native American and Wiccan beliefs....maybe I was one or the other in a previous life.

Most definitely!

Mostly it is just from ignorance and fear.

People are afraid of what they don't understand, and a lot of people are too scared to try and learn about it...as if by simply trying to understand, they are allowing it control over their lives or are condemning themselves.

All we can do is be patient and try and educate people the best we can.

If they even show any interest. A lot don't even want to know, which is why this thread is really great. There are some really great links here and some good book suggestions. I think that you can see a common thread that goes through all of us, is not proselytizing. It goes against everything we're taught to force our beliefs on anyone. Everyone has to find and follow their own path. What I believe isn't necessarily what Silverfilly (for example) believes. Nor, does it mean that I am right and she is wrong. It's what feels right for each individual. There are only a few basics that seem to be a familiar theme in most paths, and that is basically Whatever energy you put out, be it good or bad, will come back to you times three; and You are free to do whatever you want, so long as it harms no one. However, there are certain belief systems that focus more on the Virtue of Selfishness. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing...just different.

One author that is really good for the basics is Scott Cunningham. He wrote in a very laid back style, and doesn't focus on one particular path, just the basics. I still have all of my books I ever had of his. My kids read them now.

But, a great book for kids is "Meadows, Mountains and Moonbeams" by Mary Summer Rain. It really explains a lot about spirituality in general, in easy to understand words.

If anyone would like more info, and don't feel comfortable posting here, please feel free to PM me. It will all be held in confidence.

Shelly
