Happy Ostara !!!!!! Pg17 Formerly Blessed Solstice and Merry Yule

Just curious. Have any of you notice that many cultures have stories of a Deity dying and being reborn? I have noticed it before but never really thought about it until recently.

This series is interesting. It is from the BBC. The narrator tries to point out the similarities in different belief systems. Very interesting. There are eleven parts and I only could watch three before I got interrupted, but definitely interesting viewing.

By the way, while in Barnes and Noble I picked up this book and then read negative reviews on its accuracy.

It is still a pretty interesting book and I will just have to make certain to read a lot of other sources before I take anything as hard fact.

This book is much better rated but you can't see inside. I like to preview the writing before I get a book.

They have a site on the web though, so I will check that out.

I also got a book by a man named Kirsch. It is a history book called God Against The Gods(I think) It sounds interesting.

So many books, so little money to buy them all.

People fear death. The thought of dying and going to heaven, or dying and being reborn, appeals to them - heck, it appeals to me, although I don't believe it. That's why throughout the ages there have been gods that died and were reborn. At least that's how I see it.

Yes, I have. And there's an interesting film (link below) called Zeitgeist. When I watched it - especially the first part of the film (the first 40 minutes) which gives a brief history of the common and borrowed themes of human religion - things finally began to gel in my mind. I started seeing where the origins of this stuff come from. And the Sun and Solstice is a big part of it!

BTW, thanks for the BBC links and the link to the book. I'll be checking it all out!
