James Arness of 'Gunsmoke' fame has died. I wasn't around for the origional but still watch the reruns.

I am old enough to have watched the originals......Matt Dillon is the reason my oldest son is named Matt.

We still watch the re-runs. He lived a long life and his memory lives on through re-runs.

I watched the orginals also and was surprised he was still alive(well at least he was before he died today!) An outstanding role model thats for sure. Is Miss Kitty still alive?

Amanda Blake (Miss Kitty) died of AIds due to a blood transfusion years ago. I believe her case was one of the first high profile cases - she died much too early! James Arness was an awesome actor but also wonderful humble human being. They don't make them like him anymore. I remember begging my parents every Saturday night to stay up a little later than normal so I could watch Gunsmoke - what a treat!

I'm glad he didn't have to suffer and he was able to die peacefully in his sleep.

I grew up watching Gunsmoke. It was my Grandfathers favorite.
