Hello,
Just as I thought all my ladies were done hatching their chicks boom I have another broody lady.
This hen in particular is really really hard to break of it even in “chicken jail”.
Now don’t get me wrong I love my ladies being happy Mama’s raising their chicks.
The issue is it’s getting pretty late in the year and we live in a cooler climate. I’m worried it’s too cold at this point to not be eating normally and to sit for 21 days. Plus hard to find fertilized eggs this time of year.
She been sitting for 5 days now so I feel it’s either like quick jump on it and try to break her of it before she sits too long, but like I said she’s relentless when she starts or could I pop a few day old chicks under her now?
I’m wondering if she would accept day old chicks after only sitting for about a week?
Thank you

Hmm, giving her day old chicks is risky, she may not except them and kill them, plus you aha not wait until the hatch date for her eggs or she will for sure not except the chicks. You could let her hatch eggs and give them an area the raise the chicks were it is warm and they won't get chilled, maybe you could set her up inside your house. You would probably want to move her to the house now if you want to through with it, especially since you would like to break her, so maybe moving her will do that? You would aha ego keep the chicks in a warm area until they can take the chill themselves, but I am no pro. You could put seam eggs under her or easter eggs and they won't hatch, but then she will be sitting for so long with no result, which seems kinda brutal.
