Hard to Peel Eggs

I am going to try the methods that were posted. The last thing we tried was boiling eggs in a vinegar and water solution.......don't even try it, my wife is still mad as a wet hen.

SUCCESS! I started the salt water boiling then added the cold eggs and boiled them for 16 minutes. Removed the eggs from the boiling water directly into ice water for 10 minutes. The eggs peeled like a navel orange but faster. The yolk was still a little warm after I peeled the eggs but the outside white was cold. Worked like a champ. These eggs were 1 day old from different breeds.

Well, do let us know which method works for you best. But, yes, keeping your eggs stored in the fridge for at least 3-4 weeks will give you eggs more like store-bought eggs, because they get dried out a little bit sitting in the fridge.

Our solution...we don't hard boil eggs much anymore, but will fry or scramble...no peeling necessary!

That's because your eggs are fresh and the store eggs are not.  Here's what I do.

I bring the water to boil first and add salt to it.
Next, I add the eggs and I boil them for 16 minutes.
Then I remove the eggs and put them directly into a ice and water bath to cool.
If you do that, they will peel just like the store bought eggs.

Well, there you have it.
From all the above posts, you can do whatever.
Store bought or fresh eggs, no difference ...
Boil water first or not. Add salt or not ...
Cook for about 15-16 minutes.
Important is that you immediately after the 16 minute boil take them out of the boiling or hot water, and then dunk them in ice cold water.

No need for an ice bath. Not being argumentative. Just try a couple eggs just like I described above. I was skeptical as well. There is no simpler way. No ice baths,no pinholing,no salt, no worries. Heck, I don't even like hard boiled eggs that much, but I like pickeld eggs and that led me to this method.

What is your method of making pickled eggs.
My family used to do that a lot when we lived in Asia.

3 cups vinegar
1cup water
2 teaspoons salt
1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon pickling spices
1 clove garlic
Bring this to boil then pour over peeled eggs in jar
Seal jar then let cool
Place in fridge
Wait one week then enjoy

Quote: Aha, I will do your method because the way they did it in the Far East was to put the UN-peeled and UN-cooked eggs in the salt - mixture and it took forever ...at least 3-4 weeks or longer !
