Hardest decision ever :-( - UPDATE post 69!!!!!

Nicky, it's great to hear that Sunshine pulled thru. He must have had great care! And caring!
Molting looks terrible, and I think it really stresses a bird. On those cold nights, a heat lamp sounds pretty good. My girls lose alot of weight when they molt. It's sad to see these plump chickens get skinny. But they gain it back. Sunshine is one cute roo, even with the missing feathers. Looking forward to seeing him in all his glory!

I hope Sunshine is at the the end of his arduous journey to health. It's good to see you putting him in the coop (under a lamp) and not worrying (too much!

). I didn't want to see you get depleted by all you've had to deal with in your chickens this fall and winter.

How is Phoenix's gait? Is he walking well still? How are your little sick hen and Coco? I've been thinking of them, too, but Sunshine needed the spotlight while he was sick.

The whole flock is freezing this morning as it was -23C overnight (-10F) and I had to knock the ice out of the bowls with a hammer, everyone's standing on one leg all puffed up with little clouds blowing out of their beaks...

I HATE WINTER!!

However the mood was good, everyone's calm and getting along great - Phoenix and Sunshine are ignoring each other but rubbing shoulders under the heat lamp

Tonight, I am giving one of my white silkie roos, 5-mth old Arthur, to the breeder who gave me the sultan and the dark brahmas. Arthur has too much testosterone and I can't have 18 girls with 5 boys, it's ridiculous. He'll have a great home there with two little silkie hens who need company.

First time I have to part with a flock member... sigh
