Hardest decision ever :-( - UPDATE post 69!!!!!

Technodoll, first off, since we are all getting attached to you, what's your name?
You have the right to change your mind, it's okay.
Maybe between their lowered immune system, worms, lice, cold, etc. it was making it real hard for them to recuporate. Now that things have been corrected, it might give them a chance to fight whatever off.
They really don't look too bad. The hen looks like she's gobbled food down, her crop is full. They also look kinda like their molting, which is a huge drain on energy.
It just might be finding the right antibiotic. I think Pen. is more for wounds, but people swear by Tylan for respiratory stuff.
I think you have covered all the bases, now the harder part-waiting.
IMO, I'm sure you already know, but if they don't look better or they look worse after a few days on Pen, I wouldn't wait the week. I'd just go to the Tylan. But I would wait 2-3 full days. (I'm not a vet)

Thank you Karen...

I can't wait to get my hands on the Tylan-50 since I've heard very good things about it here from members, I will call the clinic when it opens on Tuesday and hopefully they can have it back in stock soon - yes, waiting is the hardest part...

I too have my doubts about the antibiotic I'm currently giving but it's better than nothing.

(Am also adding probiotics to their food).

Phoenix isn't molting, he's just in very bad shape from months of being ill - his skin is very dry and flaky, so frustrating. He won't eat ANYTHING besides his crumbles, he's a very fussy boy.

Any suggestions on how to get him to eat those yummy scrambled eggs, warm oatmeal, bits of meat and greens?

Rosie is laying a day an egg without fail, so I doubt she is molting... none of her sisters are. She has always been the one with the BEST plumage and now she's all ratty thanks to whatever is ailing her - gaaah! It hasn't affected her appetite nor her mood, she's bored silly in that crate and is very vocal about it. I give her lots of visits and crate breaks, they have the classical music channel in the bathroom for company, I don't know what more I can do.

Where can I go buy a box of patience?

If you have access to baby bird hand feeding formula for parrots, you can mix up some of it with warm water. It has a lot of good stuff in it. It may take a few trys before he realizes he likes it, but once they do I practically have to beat them off of it so i can get my hand back, LOL.

I can look in the pet store for that, I imagine they would have some if they stock food for birds -

thanks for the suggestion!!

You can also sprinkle the baby parrot food over crumbles and they won't know they're eating it! Awesome stuff!

Well tomorrow I am calling the vet for some Tylan-50 since the current antibiotics aren't doing a thing (of course...) and if the roads are open, I'll head out to the pet store to get some of that baby parrot food. We're completely snowed in

At least the patients aren't worse so that's good, right?

That's good new that they are hanging in there well! I'll cross my fingers that the roads are clear and that you can get the Tylan!!
