hardware cloth

Because I am terrified of snakes :). I know it is probably not strong enough for the apron of the run, but I just wondered if I could use it elsewhere?
1/2" should keep snakes out, except the tiny ones which will become chicken food.
Do you live where there are venomous snakes?

I’m a little late to this party, but I used 1/4 inch (I think) hardware cloth back in 2012, and it still holds fine with no deterioration. I fastened it with 2x4’s on the sides and screws with washers at the top and bottom. Nothing has ever gotten in.

Thank you! Do you happen to know what guage it is?

What type/brand of hardware cloth or chicken wire is recommended to build a coop/run? I hate working with standard chicken wire. We don't have a lot of predators and our property has fencing for animals, so it wouldn't have to be super fine mesh. But one that is decent for structure, rust resistance, etc. Thanks!
Half inch worked best for me. Nothing can slip through it, but it is tough enough to be resistant to large predators like dogs.

It,s heavy enuff to draw blood!!! Actually it was pretty easy to work with. Sorry I don’t know the gauge. I just bought a roll of it at Lowe’s. If you go to the thread in my signature you can see it.
