Harris Farms EZ Fill 5 gal waterer

The big black donut ring inside the base that you can't see when it's put together, or the black nut on the underside you tighten?

The green 6 gallon is the one I have, but they're all built the same way.
Thing on the underside that you tighten.

The two waterers are not exactly the same. The company actually used a different float than the red one, I think I read somewhere. (Not positive).
Have to research.

And there are reviews from people who fixed it multiple times, and they still leak. To me it seems like a product quality issue.

I know they come put together, but you said you want to be able to clean it, so I assumed you've been taking them apart and putting back together when cleaning.

My green 6 gallon has the same parts as pictured in the video with the red 5 gallon.

I'm not saying they can't be faulty, just trying to work through all possibilities before you junk three of them, I know they aren't cheap.

I would take one apart, make sure the black donut float inside isn't full of water, and then make sure it's put back together properly, and use a tool to tighten the nut. If it still doesn't work, then it's certainly junk. In which case I'd call Harris Farms and see what they'll do for you.

Will do, thanks!! :)

I would also suggest getting another person to help. It's hard to hold the one side tight while tightening the other because the bucket is so tall. I plan to do this soon myself since I didn't clean mine when I put it up for winter, so I want to clean it and have it nice and tight and ready for spring.

I did also find that it's better to leave them in place and carry a bucket of water to them, rather than carrying them around full.

Hi Cyprus,
I actually bought the metal one from the tractor supply. I got metal because I was making my own water heater system. The reviews were bad, but once the cover slide on it does not seem to leak. I actually made a video of my project. Hope it works out.. Sometimes seems nothing can be easy including a pan of water.....
Please take a look at my video.

So, I bought a new one of these a few weeks ago. It's a nightmare! The float with the attached plug sucks. I got it working somehow, but anytime it runs dry, it's back to leaking again once refilled. The older one is no problem at all, go figure.
I did hit on what I think may be a solution tonight. I took it apart and made sure the float didn't have water in it, then put the base where I want it and put some water in it, then sat the float in on the water, dropped the reservoir on, and tightened it up hard. Filled it up, working perfectly. For whatever reason, it seems that float can't get to floating very well when starting dry.
What a pain!

I'm glad you found some sort of solution! We did nothing at all to change what we had and it is now working again for several months strong.
I think their waterers are hit and miss.

If you ask me, it's probably some quality control issue on their end. Way too many reports of issues for it to be random.
