I'm sorry you're feeling that way. I really do think it's just that the eggs aren't getting fertilized though. You could trim butts to see if that helps but hatching isn't for everyone. I understand! There was a huge learning curve for me initially! My very first hatch under a broody hen was a complete DISASTER and I thought for sure I would never try again but here I am...lol!

I grew up raising chickens and hatched a ton. But guess I didn't do most of the hard work with it since I was young. I started to trim today which some needed anyways since poop was stuck to their major fluffy butts. I need another set of hands though to finish it up. Was hard to hold them, they were really great though, try to move tail, see and trim at the same time. Lol. They really do have a ton of fluff. Well Itzy and Ditzy which were the 2 I started with. My EE and SF aren't really fluffy, the SF is a bit but nothing like my cochins. Side view but this is Ditzy...

What breeds would you order & from where?

Splash LF Cochin. That is what I am trying to hatch. I can't get them around here so figured I had a blue roo and blue hen so why not hatch my own. But no clue from where since a quick search just showed straight runs

I so want to get one of these. A chicken thing to tinker with. One that I don't have, and could learn a lot about. Resisting, so far. It helps that it's about $150-160, so not a cheap impulse buy.

Do not get in incubator if:
You hate chickens
Don’t want little fluffers
Don’t want an educational opportunity
Don’t want to spend hours daily staring at it
Don’t want a serious, incurable addiction-which so happens to be wonderful at the same time.
Don’t want to have fun

DO get an incubator if:
You realize the consequences of addiction
You love chickens
You need more chickens
You want more chickens
You want to be able to see little baby embryos kicking in their shells
You want something entertaining on a drizzly afternoon
You want to have fun
Do want fluffers

I hope this was very helpful. Personally, I would weigh the pros and cons, and no matter what the pros and cons are, get that incubator.

It is crazy how floofy they are! I have a picture of Annabelle (my buff cochin) from the back from last Summer and she got even floofier as she got older. LOL I LOVE the big fluff balls but the poop is a pain since there is sooo much floof!

Has anyone used these before in a wood stove heated house? I've had great luck with my small Brinsea, but need to upsize this year and can't afford the larger Brinsea units at this point.

It is crazy how floofy they are! I have a picture of Annabelle (my buff cochin) from the back from last Summer and she got even floofier as she got older. LOL I LOVE the big fluff balls but the poop is a pain since there is sooo much floof!

I have the same problem with one of my English Orpingtons. So messy.

I dithered for quite a while, then bought one several years ago. Hatched some of my own flocks eggs, then some mail order eggs. I had no idea how wildly successful those hatches would be and now Snappy has too many chickens and 5 roosters. All nice, and all pets.
Well, ok, 4 pet roosters and one flockmaster.

I've been keeping chickens 15/16 years and have years of successful broody hatches, but only ever had one nice rooster. One!
I swore them off a long time ago...now I have 5 quiet ones that I just adore.

...see? Like sourdough starters.

I wanted a Porcelain d'uccle... just one, well two so that it had company...so you know, I ordered shipped eggs not expecting a fabulous hatch rate because they're shipped but NR360s have proven to me time and time again that you can hatch shipped eggs just like any others, lol! So now I have 14 chicks in my grow out pen...16 eggs were shipped and 1 wasn't fertilized so only 1 quitter.
