Got a

to fly for a hack out on Harry this morning. We set off and it was dry, overcast yes but dry! Got half way & the heavens opened! So we got soaked but then it stopped. So we carried on round the slightly longer route, got half way round that and it started again I only had a thin T shirt & hi-viz on so it ran down my back & into my jods. Was not pleasant when I got off but H and Saffy were both well behaved. Barring the rain it was a nice hack out

Have to ask... what is the point of a gate like this? Prevent vehicles from going up the path? Seems too narrow to worry about cars going up there. You can lift a bicycle over. Motorcycles?

Another question about what Charlie is studying... you called it a gamekeeper's course (I think?). What type of work would he be doing with that certification? Here we have game wardens, which are a type of law enforcement officer that enforce laws/regulations set for hunting and fishing on public and private lands. Is it a similar thing?

"Gamekeeper," I've read in novels, is the person who protects the lords' lands from starving peasant poachers and helps the spoiled aristocracy go on hunts. haha I don't think silly romance novels are the best source of info!

In a sense yes Charlie’s course is something like the novels He’s hoping to get a job on a shooting estate where he would be rearing the birds, growing them on then helping on shoot days when all those with silly money pay big bucks to come & shoot the birds. Got a

to fly for a ride in the school on Lottie this afternoon. A nice practice and Lottie was a good girl. Thankfully we managed to get done before the rain starting pounding again. Goodness it’s been heavy showers here the last few days. But can’t complain as the grass needed it.
As we are doing the show on Sunday I had a ride with just the thin neoprene numnah on under the saddle pad Crikey it felt even more like riding bare back with stirrups than the quilted saddle cloth!!

I was thinking it might be something like that. Sounds like a great job for outdoor lovers and bird dogs. Does Charlie ever ride horses? Seems like that would be a fun job too, taking people out riding.

It is Wishing, fresh & animals for a job! It’s hard work though no matter the weather. Also when you start off in the keeping world it’s as an under keeper or apprentice so you get all the worst jobs for the smallest pay packet. But I’ve told him it’s all character building for the future!

Charlie’s not keen on riding. Not totally averse to horses but not as keen on it as guns & dogs. He’s had a few goes on Harry when he was younger and his girlfriend has got him on hers a couple of times when he’s stayed at her house. I don’t have video evidence of that though! He will come help me with mucking out, picking the field and taking them back & forth etc but that’s it.

to fly for the dressage this evening. Not gone quite to plan but we got round. Totally missed the trot to walk and after one horse length trot again Was very late trotting again! Plenty to work on for next time!

Got

to fly for this weekend on Lottie. Practice yesterday & the show today. We got a 1st & a 4th as we did two classes. She was a good girl and overall I enjoyed myself more than I thought I would. Friend sent me a couple of pics but just waiting for the photographer to upload the pics online.
Very serious on these!

Back to work on Harry tomorrow now the show is out of the way!!

I know Lottie wasn’t keen on standing still once we had come out so I think I was about to say something to her!
How to keep them clean? Washed, scrubbed & soaked twice the day before and a quick wash again first thing in the morning.
