Crikey, years! I would definitely be necking some pills after years! Because some nights I can manage to sleep through that’s why I’ve not taken anything. Hope it just rights itself but then I would imagine something else will come along for me to worry about! Plus I don’t want to feel poopy the next day from taking something at night.

Shock horror! For the second time this week I’m flying a flag!

Nice & steady in the school but goodness it was windy! Cold wind too! Harry’s mane was blowing well up!

Need to get it pulled to a more manageable length!

Woohoo! Well done you!His mane blown up like that makes it look as though you are cantering or galloping. Wish I had access to an arena.
Mine have been turned away for a couple of weeks to get eat the last of the grass off their summer field. Got a 4th hand phone call yesterday from Ian via someone he knows who got it from staff at the pub opposite....to say that my horses had got out and were on the walkway on the low side of the field. Heart in mouth and clutching an arm full of halters and a bucket of carrots I dashed up there wondering how on earth I would manage to get them back in and then keep them there whilst I somehow fixed the fence, especially as they are so daft that I would struggle to lead 2 of them together let alone 4 and of course being out of the field is so exciting, I could only imagine how hyped they would be! I can't tell you how relieved I was to get to the field and see all 4 where they should be. There was however a little shaggy palomino pony on the walkway which MeMe was extremely concerned about and was stood next to over the fence keeper her company. Got the pony caught OK but then what to do. It wasn't keen to leave MeMe and MeMe screamed blue murder when I led it away to look for another field it could have come out of. I toyed with taking it down home and putting it in my yard but as Ian said, what if it wasn't claimed and that certainly can happen. Anyway, when I walked back towards my field both the pony and MeMe screamed for each other and it suddenly dawned on me that this must be the pony that she had become pally with in the field above them. I had not seen the pony myself because there is a thick hedge between and the field is sublet, so all sorts of ponies come and go but MeMe was so attached to this pony and was dripping with sweat from running around screaming for it, that it had to be "the one". I had to walk her up the main road past my field and thn the gate was padlocked but by then Ian was on his lunch and came with a hammer and managed to get it off it's hinges and open the gate that way to put it back in. The other pony in the field was clearly pleased to see it so I had made the right call, but it went straight to the hedge line with my field and MeMe stood the other side with her...... I guess she would like an adoptive sister! Have no idea how she managed to get onto the walkway, but didn't come through my field as all fences were intact and she hadn't come down the road. Never even got a thank you from the guy who rents the field when I told him the pony had been out and I had put her back and it took up half of my afternoon! Arrgh!

@rebrascora

Harry canter or gallop in the school? He does not do corners very well  Looking at it now you have said that it does look like it! But unfortunately not! Is there no one near by who has an arena you could hire? The bigger one at the farm gets hired out. A few in the village that don’t have their own come & use it.

Wow Barbara that phone call sure does sound like a “My Aunties gold fish’s best friend told me” kind of call! I can just imagine the panic you must have been feeling heading to the field :hmm Any loose horse is concerning but to think you were going to have to tackle 4 must have been serious panic stations. Good to read though it was just a pony out but wow MeMe sure does sound attached to it! Sounds like H & Brans relationship!

Sounds about right from the guy not saying thank you. P’s & Q’s cost nothing, some folk just can’t be right can they. I really do wonder what has happened to society sometimes! It was the same here when Scott found that loose stallion that had been roaming the village all night! Not a please, thank you or kiss my backside!

Invoice the bloke for your time, make it a good hourly rate!

:lau but yes very much like that!

There is an areana up at the farm that I used to have use of and can use for Ian's horses because they are stabled there but the farmer's partner has stopped other people from using it and although I am on good terms with her I don't want to put her in a difficult position by asking or upset others that I know who are now no longer allowed to use it. It is a shame because it could do with a working party to go up and refurbish it so to speak.... railings are broken and weeds everywhere etc and needs harrowing but I don't really want to suggest it when I don't have use of it and I don't have time to do my own jobs anyway. Also, I have to get an excited horse up there in order to use it and back safely on a busy main road with lots of lorries and very steep banks even if I did have use of it. The other one locally that I could hire is about a mile and a half away and again, getting a daft horse there is not easy, so it's not like I can just throw a saddle on when I have a spare half hour and do a bit of schooling which is what I need to make it easy enough to get my head round particularly in the depths of winter..... which are fast approaching. We had an inch of snow came down and laid this morning! Did you get any??

No snow here! The wind is bitter and we had some sleety ish showers this morning. Such a drop in temp is quite shocking! Needless to say I’ve not been onboard H today! He’s all wrapped up in a nice & cosy stable rug.

I see your problem there with having to hack to an arena :hmm A shame the farmers partner does give her arena a tidy up. Seem’s a waste to let it get in to disrepair.

If I win the lottery Barbara I will get you one built & your yard concreted!

Kim you are far too kind. I would be happier if you could help Leyla cover that hospital bill ahead of my arena and yard though and I'm sure you have many essential things of your own waiting for some cash to splash at them, but if you have a really, really massive win that covers all those other things and still a bit left, I wouldn't turn you down!! ;)

I have been wondering if a very basic round pen and maybe a very low tech horse walker might be within dreaming distance. I do so worry about them filling up with fluid whilst they are in for the winter, especially as they are getting older. It would probably be cheaper to book them into a livery yard in reality though and I would struggle to find somewhere that could take all four. Maybe I should just sacrifice my field and leave them out all winter.
It was a pleasant day today once the snow stopped and the sun came out and melted it although the wind was cold, but it seemed to turn milder about 6.30pm and now it has just chucked it down with rain. Yuk! I have to head up the hill yet. Hopefully it was just a short shower.

For sure Barbara I would be helping Leyla out if I’m lucky enough to have a lottery win! ;) I already have a pact with Leyla that should I win I will be straight over there for a visit! Any essential things over here like things round the house would be out the window as I would be straight out looking for a pile with land & stables so I could have Harry at home! And of course Bran as they are joined at the hip. Becky has already said I could have him if I’m ever lucky enough to get my own place with land. My real menagerie would really begin then

Do you really think livery would be cheaper for you? Especially with 4? Livery is my biggest hit in the purse for Harry :( £120 per month for DIY. I dare not add anything else up over the month because it would scare me

Round pens & walkers are def worth it. We had one at the farm but it’s gone now and I really do miss it! Filled legs also bother me. Harry’s are still puffy on a morning and he’s clicking  Just put him back on cortaflex & buteless yesterday. Now clocks have changed they will be coming at 2 to save a bit of the fields. More time in = puffy legs. Starting back on the magnet boots too. But have thought about those bigger stable boots/wraps to keep the fluid at bay? Never used them though?

You are right. I couldn't afford that sort of money for livery for 4 of them. I was just thinking in contrast to the thousands it would cost to get the ground drained and levelled to have a round pen and walker installed and the difficulty of that with my yard being on an historic site. I used to keep two at a livery yard when the lads were young and it was wonderful having access to an indoor arena, although at the time I probably didn't appreciate it as much as I would now. I know I am lucky to have my own place even with the limitations that it has.

With mine it is their bellies that fill up with fluid which is more scary I think than their joints. I really don't know why it happens like that but it has for the past 10 years and all of them are the same.
