Blooming Heck Kim!! Very impressed that you have been out twice but you can do without having drama like that and very disappointing that the other girl was so inconsiderate. My sister does endurance but she always goes at the pace that the slowest person in the group is comfortable with. Poor Harry, but so pleased it wasn't worse for both of you.
Pleased to report that as I speak my ggs are all reasonably OK. MeMe managed to lose her poultice boot off after the second day of poulticing and it was too dark by the time I found it to scrub her up and try to poultice it again and she seemed sound so I left it..... that was nearly a week ago and she is still sound but would not be surprised if she goes lame again with it..... we will see. Rascal is eating and keeping up with the others but I'm not sure if he is completely right. He has now developed an odema on his girth line on the underside. He had a fly bite there the size of a golf ball and then 2 days later a flat odema about 5inches by 8 by an inch deep. He is quite keen for me to scratch it so I'm guessing it is just an allergic reaction to the bite. Reb had a nasty one on his girth line two just behind one leg that came up the size of a tennis ball and started to weep but thankfully it is nearly gone now.
Our drive last week was pretty much perfect thanks. It was unbearably hot the day before and the day after but the Sunday was a little cooler with a nice breeze, so just about perfect conditions. Zak was very well behaved and Ian shared the driving with me!! We are taking a pair tomorrow. It is quite local, so at least I can get stuff done before we set off and when we get back, rather than spending 3 hrs travelling there and back.
I am down to 9 eggs as 1 got broken and just one more week to go. It was fertile as you could see veins in the broken remains but I haven't candled any of them. What will be will be! Good luck with your goose egg. Rather sad that it will be an only chick, if it makes it. Your quail look lovely. Will you be keeping them?
Think that is all my news. Hope you enjoy the remainder of the long Bank Holiday weekend. Do you have any plans? Fantastic that the sun is shining yet again!

Hope Harry's grazed knee heals without problem and you are waving more flags soon!

Very best wishes

You sure love hatching these geese! Hahaha! I would be a nervous wreck!

I do but they are nail biting! I just had another quick look and it’s pushing against the membrane so should not be long now until it pip’s :pop

To be perfectly honest here Kim, when you said you hatched Harlequins I thought you were talking about another breed of quail. There is another Harlequin quail, a brightly colored black and white faced bird. So I got confused. :oops:I've never kept this breed you have. Very pretty! :)

No problem Leyla, I think this is where I’m getting confused too as things are not looking like anything I’ve found with searches for these little one’s. I think she may have had me over when I bought the eggs :hmm Still they are cute little things so we shall see! Thank you Leyla :)

How egg-citing on the goose egg!! Definitely keep us posted. :)

As for the quail, once they are fully grown and feathered, we should be able to figure out exactly what they are. LOL There are SO many breed variations and colors with quail, confusing to say the least! :D

I’m never going with them again! They are very competitive and I now know why non of the others go with them! After our slip I told her I would have to go in front, she took it well and to be quite honest her’s was not that bad following. I’ve learnt my lesson, unfortunately at H’s cost

I do hope after a week she stays sound for you, typical for her to lose the boot so soon. The cookie sure is crumbling all wrong!

Sounds like the flies are out with vengeance for you up there :( Touch wood not too bad here but I’ve been liberally applying fly spray and keep him wrapped up in the fly rug with the belly cover on. It also has permethrin impregnated into it (Vamoose) and the pattern is meant to keep flies away. Not sure that totally works but it keeps my mind happy. Fingers crossed that odema on Rascal goes down and all is well again for him. Having an itch you can’t get to must be mind bending!

Good luck on the pair driving tomorrow, should be a nice for it. Real bonus too it being local!

Ugh on an egg getting broken. Good luck with the rest :fl

Things are coming on well for the goose egg but yes sad if it hatches ok that it will be the only gosling. I’ve spoke to out farmer friend and he says he knows someone who should have a duckling or two or maybe even some smaller goslings for it to go with so hopefully it won’t be lonely for too long.

I’m going to try and keep most of the quail as they are neat/comical little birds. Once I know what’s what sex wise I will need to get rid of some males as they are ferocious at breeding the females!

No plans really for weekend, try and get out on Harry as long as he’s sound. He’s turned out so that should keep any swelling down and stop any stiffness. Other than that prepare myself for a busy day Tuesday with deliveries! Dreading it after the last bank holiday escapade!!!

Have a great weekend Barbara!

Kim xx

I’m getting another flag out!

I’m shocking myself here!

Harry was sound this morning on his knee so we headed out with his field pal Branon doing ride and lead. Nice steady walk round the village and no traumatic events like yesterday.

They have gone into a new field this morning so their’s can be rested and it’s all very exciting being somewhere new. Even though it’s only 2 fields down from their’s!
