A bit of mustard is ok :p I like mash with mustard too!
Couldn't even think of turning the gas hob on though at the moment to boil any potatoes. It’s an oven already in here! Downside of a bungalow I guess is that if you swing the windows open the less scrupulous of this world are in a robbing you. Day or night!

Ain’t that the truth  still, I get withdrawal symptoms without some puds a couple of times a week :D

We have had some REAL RAIN at long last! :clap :ya :bun
Had a bit yesterday too but not as heavy as this. Everywhere is a bit of a quagmire now but the sun is back out again!

No sign of you out there dancing naked in it!! So pleased you have had some rain though.
We have been on the very edge of the storm both last night and this morning. It started to come down heavy spots on both occasions but before the ground got wet it stopped again.... Arrgh! Maybe I need to get out there naked myself! The skies would almost certainly come crashing down to end that spectacle!
Pleased to post a

for this morning. Lauren and I had a steady but pleasant ride out. I let her choose her horse and I was pleased that she didn't shy away from riding Rebel again. I also let her set the pace and kept Rascal tucked in behind as much as possible. Apart from thunder rumbling around whilst we were out and getting hit by a few of those heavy raindrops I mentioned, it was very uneventful. :thumbsup

We are off to Kelso to the Border Union Show tomorrow morning and Lauren is going to come with us which will be lovely. Our aim is not to come last in every class we have entered, but the level of competition is very high so it is a distinct possibility we will not achieve our goal.

Arthur is coming on really nicely with the little bit of ground work I am doing every day with him. His wound is healing at last but keeping the flies off is proving challenging and today I resorted to good old fashioned Stockholm tar, since the flesh is all but closed up now and the skin is starting to form over it. This is how it looked a couple of days ago but this is about 5 weeks since it happened...

It is about 5 inches long and quarter to half an inch wide right around the inside of the top of his foreleg.
And this is him looking pretty, posing for his photo...

Oh, I also have 3 new chicks. Two marans crosses and a welsummer cross. Just 4 days old. Not got any photos of them yet. Tasha and Cruella, as my neighbour has christened her, are co brooding. Cruella went broody the day after I gave Tasha half a dozen eggs. She has spent the past 3 weeks nicking the eggs off Tasha but now the chicks are hatched (sadly 2 duds and one squashed and shrink wrapped during hatching... not surprising in the dry heat we have had)... I was pouring water into the nest box during hatching to try to increase the humidity a bit for them..... Tasha has mostly taken charge but allows Cruella to play auntie. They both climb into a nest box together with the chicks at night which is quite funny because it is a very snug fit, unlike the large communal nest box they incubated in! Must get a photo of them. Tash is white and Cruella, black.
The previous 4 chicks are doing well but definitely 3 cockerels and 2 of them have started crowing already . Really hoping I have better odds with these new chicks but not holding my breath!

Think that is all my news. Hope the flies are not too bad now that you have mud! Hope you have a lovely weekend.

Very best wishes

Barbara

Naked rain dance! :gig

Wow Barbara Arthur is very pretty :love And look at that grass! :p I have to say you are doing fab job with the wound care! It looks pretty big but doesn’t half look clean! I can just imagine that keeping those pesky flies away is a real pain. I’ve been whacking copious amounts of gel on Harry on all his exposed bits that the rug does not cover.

So pleased to see you have another flag out! Not for me yet but I hope so tomorrow in between the showers :fl
That’s right showers forecast for tomorrow! Seems we are catching up now on the rain. It’s at it again right now with thunder & lightning too. I’m sat here worrying about H and Bran being out with only fly rugs on :hmm If it gets the better of me I will be going back to get them in or I won’t sleep

It’s great to hear Lauren has got back on board Rebel and he’d not totally put her off. Good on her, she really does sound lovely.

Good luck for tomorrow and I hope you will all have a great time and not come last! Positive mental attitude before you even start Barbara! I had to laugh at this what one of the liveries put on our WhatsApp group regarding showing

New chicks! :clap It sounds like a very cosy upbringing that they are going to have with a mum & auntie. They must be mafting all in one nest box, especially with this heat. Looking forward to seeing the pics :jumpy
Ugh on the cockerel’s, process them?

Have a great day tomorrow Barbara, get Lauren to take some pics!

Well, the weather gods obviously heard my threat to dance naked and decided to take action. We also have thunder and lightning with the deluge. It is really tropical. I'm still tempted to go out and dance in it, it is so refreshing! If Harry and Bran are anything like me they will be happy to be out in it. It feels so stifling still in the house and so revitalising outside! Ian washed Zak and then turned him out so we will be having a very early start in the morning to bath him again I think!

Love the skit on showing and sadly rather true...... but not when we won last year in that local show of course!!! Unfortunately Zak is slightly lame since the farrier came this morning. It always seems to happen for a day or two afterwards with Ian's farrier. I warned Ian but he has been waiting for the guy to get back to him as he knew we needed Zak doing before tomorrow and of course he rang last night to say he would come today and now the horse is not sound. I've trotted him up and down both on the road and the grass and he is ok on the grass so we might get away with it but nodding quite noticeably on the hard surface.

Yes, I will be processing the cockerels but they have a bit of growing to go yet and there will not be much more than stock on the leghorns but the buff Orp should make a decent meal. Not looking forward to it but have been keeping my distance from them from the start.

Must go as I have boots to clean and outfit to iron for tomorrow.

Hope you enjoy your ride tomorrow and don't get too wet. X
