I think I have a broody quail! Not sure if it’s good or bad as I know they don’t usually make good mothers. I collected eggs and it was in the cat carrier with some eggs under it! Fluffed up and tail stuck up warning me off. I don’t know what came over me, I’ve swapped the bigger eggs for 6 smaller Harlequin ones that should be fertile as I have a couple of little Harlequin cock birds in there

Some hens become aggressive around nests and eggs and they are not broody. I've been bitten pretty hard by crazy hormonal hens in the past. :gig She probably isn't broody enough to set on eggs, just attack you. :lau

Yep false alarm with the quail! She did stay there for quite a while but this morning she’s out & milling about again. Never mind, I might just have to get the incubator out again

Shock horror! I’m getting another flag out

No one else wanted to come with me so I did ride & lead. Nice & quiet with no traumatic events.

I’m catching you up Barbara! Hanging on those coat tails

Yes, the spunky hens will act a tad broody by lunging at you. They may set for an hour but grow bored fast. Keep an eye out though, some quail breeds can and do occasionally go broody long enough to hatch a clutch!

It was all a false alarm Leyla! No more signs of sitting there so it was all a flash in the pan. I’ve removed all eggs now.
My friend did have a cortunix that went broody and had she had fertile eggs she might have managed to hatch something!

Warm again here today at 26c which is more than ample for me. 29c - 30c forecast for tomorrow

Broody quail are not at all like broody chickens, at least not mine! Awfully mean, bitey, just cranky birds! You will be spared the blood. :gig

Sounds like you aren't too awful warm therr today. We've got about the same temp here, but its muggy and steamy here. You sweat just breathing. :barnie:lau
