Harts flea an tick shampoo killed Jerry!

Either capstar (tablet which kills all fleas on dog within hours) or a bath in dawn dish soap. Garlic/brewer's yeast on dog food. Spray yard with sevin or I think there is a soap mixture using dawn that you can apply. You can also use beneficial nematodes on the lawn. Inside I second the borax or I've heard you can use baking soda as well. There is a product that I ordered from Garden's Alive that has an igr in it and is completely safe around animals and kids which is used to spray flooring, furniture, bedding etc.
I'm soooo sorry to hear about your dog. That's awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not like using anything that has chemicals in it for our animals b/c their systems are sensitive and they can have a reaction anytime. Most dogs don't but you just never know when they might.

Ugh.. that Hartz stuff has been killing cats and dogs for years. Never ever use the "spot" treatment stuff that you buy at the discount store either. You know the stuff that you put on the back of their neck...

Was there anything at all on the label suggesting that there is the potential for an adverse reaction? Even if there has been a handful of instances (and I know there has be way more than that) it should be mandatory that they put a word of caution on there.

I believe that you can file a formal complaint with the FDA or some state agency. I know it won't bring your dog back or make you feel better. But, it may prevent this from happening again to someone else. The only way for it to be pulled off the shelf is if enough people report problems.

I am so sorry for your loss. Years ago we lost a 8 week old puppy to using a flea dip. Our vet told us to do it. Unfortunately, the vet was wrong.

We also learned our lesson the painful way. We know only use natural products on our animals.

They really should pull flea dips and other pesticides for pets off the shelf. Or at least regulate them much better then they already do.

I used it on my cat and she had seizures and we had to take her to the ER vet luckily she was fine. Sorry about Jerry, losing an animal BF is hard

If I remember right the consumer affairs website said there were 44,000 complainants this year. I would have to look that up again to be sure......

He was a present from my brother.

I got two girls for him this spring...... One may be pregnant with his babys. She is getting fat but not fat enough to be sure yet.... If she is then I'm keeping them all!

When I worked at the Catclinic we would see at least a 2 or 3 cases a summer of cats that reacted badly to the treatments. Sometimes Hartz would reimburse for veterinary expenses... sad.
