Harvey the Great is Dying. . .

Pics
Miracle! This morning when I went to let the chickens out of the run Harvey was wide awake! He walked out to the creek and started to drink. He was wide awake for the first time in 5 days! I had a feeling he was coming back to normal and threw down a few dried meal worms and HE ATE! MIRACLE! I got a pan and filled it with 20% chick starter and put it in run #2. He immediately followed me and started to eat! I'm so happy for our boy! Yesterday He acted dead and today he's alive again. Thanks to all who prayed and cared in your own special ways. I'll continue to give him antibiotics for another 3 days and try to get some scrambled egg into him. I know it's not over, but I couldn't wait to tell you all the GREAT NEWS!

Greetings Peppercorngal,

What wonderful news! So glad to hear that, Henry the Great, is on the mend!

The antibiotics are just kicking in. Glad you are continuing the antibiotics. You should continue the course for a full 10 days. He most likely had a severe internal infection.

Also, follow up with a 3 day course of probiotics, to restore his gut flora.

You are doing a good job of caring for him!

God Bless :)
X2!!!! As a nurse (retired) I have to encourage you to complete a 10 day course of the antibiotics. First of all you want to kill all those germs dead dead dead. Second of all if they aren't dead they can recover but now they are inoculated against the antibiotics and now you lost your weapon against them. Probiotics after the 10 days is a great idea too.
Congratulations on doing such a great job! :highfive:

Thanks, and I will continue the antibiotics for the full 10 days. It's just so good to see him walking around with his eyes open and eating. Need I mention he jumped the girls today too? That would not be my priority after almost dying, but hey, Harvey is Harvey!

I just did what anyone would do with a great rooster like Harvey! I'll finish the course of antibiotics for sure! :gig

More! More updates! Please? Knowing he is improving daily and enjoying his life is something we all are hoping for.
This morning Harvey was up and walking, ready to be released from the run to free range. I opened the door and he paraded out with the girls! First time seeing him act very normal in a long time! He is vocalizing again and making his honking noises to the girls! I'll take some photos today and try to get a video if I can. Thank you for caring so much!
