Has anyone bred Pekin and welsh harlequin ducks together??

How has Joy been today? Has she been eating and drinking good?
Shes been ok, thanks. I beleive that the pain meds might help her some, but, unless coincidence, it seems to minimize her appetite a bit. She, unfortunately, only ate a little breakfast, lunch, & dinner. So I tried offering her continuous snacks throughout the day in between meals. But shes just not eating very much. She is drinking water very good & consistently though. My sweet lil Joy!:love
But in all honesty, I do feel theres more going on than just her legs. I think her little body has some other issues that make things tough for her. :hit

You might want to consider contacting one of the university vet schools to see if they'd be interested in helping Joy. I know its a very long way for you to drive but I would hope because they are a "teaching" facility that they would be more thorough with their exam of her. You've got UGA and UF which is closer to you. Now that Joy's leg issue has calmed down that might be a thought. There may be more places and I'll check around this morning on the internet.

I trust what the smart people on BYC advise more than a vet most of the time. The experiences @Runner duck mom had twice has jaded me and I don't really trust them. There are so few that actually know or care about ducks it seems! If only the good people on BYC could actually put hands on our animals they'd probably do better than a vet because they care more. Everyone is so far apart so I know that's not possible.

Yes, I agree completely. Going to see
how she does today. She wasnt even interested much in water in the middle of the night & this morning, let alone food. I also still here a light clicking/congestion every now & then when she breathes. Part of me wants to go as far as the moon to take care of her, help her, show her love & life, with or without any disability. But....the other part of me is starting to wonder if this is just cruel. Her legs are just looking like they hurt so badly, bending back as far as they do. I'm about to try & feed her again, and see how she does. Normally she wakes up with big eyes, chirping & bouncing ready for the day.
.........ok, so I just tried feeding her & she ate & drank pretty well, thank goodness. 1 thing I'm having to deal with right now is her nares. Shes panting on & off but not hot. Her nares were clogged. Got 1 cleaned out but the other had been since yesterday. She has NEVER cleaned them herself (blowing out in water, or out.) Think she just doesn't know how.
I dont want you all to hate me for even having that thought in mind, I want her to live more than anything......but I still have a chunk of guilt that slaps me in the face every now & then when she struggles so, so hard with something.
*in the pic, her legs and feet are curving/pointing to her back end
I've always thought she might have an issue with her spine the way she sometimes leans her head to 1 side of the body, or hangs it down the front to her belly. Now, the past few days, when shes eating & drinking, betweens sips/bites, she shakes her body side to side like crazy. Not sure if that's just her way of telling me "next", or if it's something she cant help. I love this little Joy as if I carried her for 9months...... and I want to watch & help her grow, see her beautiful little face every morning, watch her eyes get big & lean her little face straight to me...... but I also know, that I'd rather hurt inside than her hurt everyday.

Can you very gently and carefully try and pick out the nare that is clogged? Maybe a tooth pick? You'd have to go slow but it may work. We are here to support what ever decision you make. :hugs
