I used to live in China, and I've eaten everything else (well not monkey or civet cat or hedgehog) however I have never eaten silkie. At the school I worked at they used to serve black pigeon all the time. I wasnt aware of silkies then but Im sure that I was eating pigeon. I have 2 silies in the bator now and probably wont eat them but Ill make it a point to try them in every dish I can when I get to China next.

Shortly after the end of the Cultural Revolution, my wife and I went to school and taught in China. When we learned that we had just finished eating a bat, we stopped asking what it was that we were eating, but I'd bet that if it walks, flies, or slithers through the waters of China we've eaten it. More that likely a silkie was in there somewhere, but I ain't admittin' nuttin'.

So, I couldn't eat any of my silkies, but I was wondering how much meat you'd actually get off of one... Looking at mine, doesn't seem like they'd make much of a meal.

Wow Joe, that's amazing. When are you starting your book? Just the idea of a young couple going to China, teaching, experiencing life, and being together blows me away. Too cool.
