Has anyone ever had new pullets start laying in the middle of winter??

I have 3 that were born in April and just started laying. We got our first egg the day after thanksgiving and have had at least one a day since. Today we had 3 for the first time. Hens are Golden and Silver laced Wyandottes and a Barred Rock. The Golden has been the best layer so far. She puts out a egg a day.

I had a Plymouth Rock start laying last week. It was hatched out the end of April.

What you have to keep in mind is that December 21st is the shortest day of the year; the days start getting longer every day after that. That means it's entirely possible for pullets to start laying in winter. In fact, every pullet I've had that was coming into her first winter started laying when her body was ready to start, no matter the time of year.

Also remember that the first day of winter is December 22nd this year.

Yes, I have over 11 pullets (all different kinds and mixes) and 2 have started and about 4 others look like they are at POL. Most are around 6-7months old.

Winter here is from 1st June through to 31st August, and my first pullet started laying on 7th June, the other two started a few weeks later.

I'm not sure it counts though - even in the middle of winter we get warm temps and lots of sunlight.

That is what Vacation is for, right? It is in the 30's (Fahrenheit) at night here and only going to get colder. Darn ice rain, ice wind, and cold.....but love the Hot Chocolate.
