has anyone ever tried to breed a PURPLE chicken

I purchased some day olds some time ago from a hatchery here in melbourne Australia.

I bought Black Australorp cross with New Hamshire chicks and when they feathered in at 6-8 week I noticed some of them had a purple sheen and the rest had green sheen.

I was told the ones with the purple sheen was the less desirable low quality bird.

I will go through my notes and see if I cant let you know why this was said.

I've been wondering about that, since hatchery's are less strict about culling birds with what's considered a fault..like the purple sheen and breeders have been working for quite a while to eradicate it...wouldn't that mean that for this particular project hatchery stock be easier to start out with? You'd have to breed with better quality stock later on of course for type and such but just for the purple sheen color it seems like it would be easier to start with stock thats been less stringently managed.

But I"m new to chickens and could be wrong lol

If you would get lavendergene into RIR you would get a pink chicken, in theory.

I bred boa constrictor morphs so i was using the the only color names I knew of. I was curious if they were the same based names for colors. Either way my principles are correct, especially the blue structural gene.

I have some speckled sussex/blue orp crosses that the male offspring have alot of purple. I thought I was seeing things even took pictures of them when they were just featherinig, pink, blue green, purple but it didn't show up on the picture very well. If I can find the pictures again I will post.

true... isabel coloring...
