Has anyone used this heating mat?!

We just ordered 15 chicks that should be arriving on Wednesday...my boyfriend picked this up at tractor supply today and we were thinking of placing it underneath the straw in the brooder, we don't use a heat lamp, but a 75 watt bulb instead for safety purposes. On the instructions they say don't to place around hay, furniture or carpet... Is it too dangerous to use this in the brooder?

Hi, we'll if that's what the information says I would be afraid it would ignite the pine shavings or be terribly hot. Is there anyway you can get a Thermometer a do a full 24 hour trial run WITHOUT shavings because you won't know how hot it actually gets until you test the temperature. Does it have a thermostat? I would do the test but it concerns me that it says not to use around hay or carpet. is it a fire hazard? is that why it gave warning? just test it then you will know what's going on with it. hope this helps.

If you wanted to switch to sand in the brooder, that wouldn't be much of a fire hazard.

It does say you can use the mat either in a horizontal position or vertical, so why not just suspend it from the side of the brooder or stick it onto a wall in the coop if you don't want to take a chance on igniting shavings or straw?

I'm going to see if there's any info on the web about these mats catching bedding on fire.

I have not used that pad but I have been following the mama heating pad brooder and it is very helpful I just finished my heating brooder. Here is the link,

I saw that pad at Tractor Supply this week. My only concern would be if the brooder was big enough for the chicks to get off it if they get too hot.
