Here's what the product info states:
Safeguard your birds from the cold with the Farm Innovators Heated Chicken Mat. Easy to use in coops and pens, this mat is thermostatically controlled to keep your chickens cozy and warm. Furthermore, the mat is easy to maintain and can be mounted vertically or horizontally.
- Red light indicator for easy monitoring
- Made from durable ABS plastic
At $50, a simple people heating pad would seem cheaper and safer. But I see nothing about the product that would lead anyone to think it's going to catch chickens or bedding on fire.
It does say you can use the mat either in a horizontal position or vertical, so why not just suspend it from the side of the brooder or stick it onto a wall in the coop if you don't want to take a chance on igniting shavings or straw?
I'm going to see if there's any info on the web about these mats catching bedding on fire.
