First time hatcher here...just set a batch of eggs from my own pens this morning. Here's what I have in the bator:
Bantams:
Red cochin over a red frizzle and a black frizzle hen.
Black cochin over black cochin/frizzle hens. This particular flock blessed us with 10 chicks via their own broody hatch10-14 days ago (egg thieves...hatches stretch about a week!)
I figured for my first time incubating, I wanted eggs that I knew were fertile.
LF:
Gold Campine roos over gold and silver hens.
LF cochin...from either a blue or a GL roo over my 3 blue hens or 1 buff hen.
Various potential mixes from a pen with Australorps, GLW and BR and another pen with BO and SLW.
I know...strange combinations, but we're still working on rightsizing the flock to those we decided to take forward in our breeding program.
As a first-timer, I'm a bit nervous about the whole process. I'm using a Hovabator Genesis 1588 with an automatic turner...first time using it to hatch...just got it and tested it out this week.
I have an LG with turner as a backup...and tested it for a full week....also a basic Hovabator still air for the last 3 days (hatching) only when I need it.

Good luck everyone!
