Hatch-a-long June/July Hatching Begins

Slate’s feet are taped and of course went immediately to sleep. We want to keep him/her separate from the other brood for awhile. Would it be okay to use the incubator for a couple of days as long as we put water and feed in it?
A few days should be fine. I sometimes use an incubator as a temporary brooder for a few days (if all of the others have hatched and are out of there). I just did that with a few ultra-teeny king quail hatchlings, because they were way too small to be with the others in the brooder. Keep the vents wide open, and you may need to adjust the temperature down a little. Hatchlings can make the temperature rise in there.

@WoDia thank you for confirming it will be okay. The temp in the incubator is 99.5. I used medical tape on Slate’s feet and it got one off and the other is stuck to two of its toes. I have used a bandaid this time on the one foot but need to wait until tomorrow to fix the second. It seems to be getting along fine with the “shoes”. We use tacky draw liner in the bottom of th incubator which should help as well. I placed a tiny jar lid with water. I am going to mix some electrolyte for the chicks tonight and will give Slate some. It is not anymore lethargic as any other day old chick. He is extremely fidgety when handled. He did not fluff up as well as the others but it should get better in a few days.

You’re welcome @Eggs_Over_EZ. 🙂 I’m glad that Slate is doing better. Good news. It sounds like they will be very cozy in there for now… and safe from getting knocked around. It’ll be easier for you to monitor them. You can even remove some of the water to take the humidity down if needed. I’ve used one of mine many times as a temporary hospital/brooder with no problem. When I hand-raise single budgie hatchlings, I keep them in an incubator since they’re totally naked. And, a very consistent temperature is vital until they grow feathers. Please continue to let us all know how the chickpeas are doing!

Hatch Status:

All hatched except for #3. Sorry @Addicted To Chickens . We will wait for another 2 days but with no pipping we believe something went wrong since last candling.😢

So we stand at 91.6% hatch rate. (Did not count infertile or pre-lockdown quitters.)

Thank you all for sharing in the hatch-a-long and cheering on the chickpeas. I am waiting on taking fluffy chick pictures until we get the status on Slate.

:frow good morning little fluffs!

Slate is doing well and eating and drinking as are the other hatchlings. They have figured out how to jump onto the brooder plate already. Slate is very feisty and trying to remove the medical tape off the one foot has not been accomplished. Has kept the bandaid on the other foot so far. Here are a few photos I attempted. These guys are busy. I am going to try to get better pics later.

Aw, man. 😔 It's okay, and I hope that all the other babies will grow healthy and strong!
Congratulations to all of the other hatched babies!

Went to bed at 3:00 AM and this morning found Louise/Louis #2 @MrsWinterWheat and Francine/Frank #12 @GreenJay joined the party. 🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣 little chickpeas running around the incubator.

# 11 Slate @The crazy Poultry hoarder has a large piece of membrane over its broke shell and is chirping. Keeping an eye on it as it may require me to break through it so it can zip. It’s shell is a little wonky. #14 Lucky @Galaxy_rules has not done anymore since it pipped yesterday and #3 remains the same.

We will move out the chicks later this morning into the brooder box. I hope to get a picture of them all together later today.
Welcome to the world little Louise/Lois! 🥰
