Hatch-a-long starting 29th of November

I will try and post a picture later of my brooder.(if computer allows! It's been acting up and I have had trouble loading pics) But its similar to one of bfrancis's . A large plastic tote from wal mart, I cut the center of the lid out and attached wire with zip ties. set the light on top.

With the 115 eggs that went into lock down yesterday...already have 5 early birds and tons of pips!

Will post pics in a couple days when the "popcorn" quits lol.

Had a pretty good day, after seeing Sixshooter's A&M chicks he posted last night here

...gave him a call and went down to his side of the state this afternoon and brought 34 white fuzzy butts home. It's great having BYCers not only in the same state, but close enough to drive to. I had a few whites already...but these will jump my production of whites up in a few weeks.

Keckels- Good to hear from you, was wondering what happened. Glad to know yours are back to laying. When ever you're ready, if there's not another hatch going on, feel free to post your egg pics and results here...everyone likes to see the chicks

Give a week notice and who knows...you might have several people that would be ready to hatch along with you.

would you be kind enough to post some pictures of your brooders? thanks

Nothing fancy on the brooders here...the first week they live in plastic tubs of some sort or the other in a back room of the house so I can monitor the chicks better, (got a pic of the round one..the rest are rectangle long and flat 16"x36"x12")...then move to an old water trough outside...then to a pen with a light...

Hope this helps or gives you some ideas. I've seen some real nice brooder boxes folks have made, maybe next spring I will too. But plastic cleans well, lite weight so stores easily, and can be disinfected to use with both quail and chicken chicks...If i were to build something from wood and wire...it would be dedicated to bird type.

you certainly are creative...thanks for the ideas.

Had a nice visit with bfrancis today and got to do my favorite thing which is bird swapping..lol....hope they work out for you. if you need more dont hesitate to call ...i might have a few more ...
