Hatch A Long with PenguinsCrafts

I just had the 9 out of 10 hatch of the White Breese. There was one weak one that died of those. None of my shipped Australorp eggs hatched, so I guess that I will be breeding my new White Breese in the future, my blue egg laying Crested Cream Legbars, and my White Naked Necks.

@BlueBaby that really stinks that none of your Australorp eggs hatched. I ordered eggs on eBay and I am on day 7 - I have silkie frizzles and lavender Americana so I am hoping to get something. I already removed 3 eggs one looks like it's blood ring two infertile or just not development. I saw a few with some wonky looking air cells. I just have to wait and see.

With the bad way that they had been packaged, I was trying not to get my hopes up too high on them. Many were either broken or cracked. The lady that shipped me my White Breese eggs did a great job with the way that she packed her's, and I ordered more of them from her now that will be here on maybe Tuesday! The one's that are coming this time are from her White Bresse pen, but she also added 2 of her White Naked Neck Turkens to the pen for me! There are 2 White Breese roo's in there with 5 White Breese hens and the 2 White NN hen's.

Since none of those Australorp eggs hatched, maybe I could breed my Splash Australorp hen to one of my other breed's. I was hoping to have gotten a new roo for her, because I don't want to breed her to one of her brothers.

Not a bad hatch on the White Breese. I keep looking at them and can not come up with a reason to get them. Silkies were easy to convince the husband to get. They are walking incubators. lol If the bird is pretty I can not get it. Has to have a real use. Like broody or food.

I have what I think are Crested Cream Legbars in my outside brooder, but I am not really sure. I need to get the brooder huts all set up. Hopefully, the husband gets me the ones he looked at for me to use for breeding. Then I can set them up as brooder huts once the babies feather out. This way they get adjusted to their homes.

I am envious of your Bresse! I’ve been looking into them a lot lately- not sure I’d have the balls ( :lau ) to caponize, but I am so intrigued by them as a meat bird.
I’m still waiting on 6 eggs- some of which have pipped - but the rest have all hatched! My divider between the two breeds was useless, they’ve basically trampled it- thankfully the Wheaten Ameraucanas and BCM’s look different enough that I can tell who is who.

How long do you leave everything in the incubator before opening? The chicks are running madly over the remaining few eggs, but I don’t want to open it too soon.

I am keeping a list of sellers I get eggs off of to see if maybe there is a pattern for the poor hatches.

My Crested Cream Legbars all came from blue eggs. I have a cockerel and 3 pullets of those. One of the girls has a really nice crest that I like.

I take my chicks out and put them in my brooder as soon as they look dry enough to go there. That way there's not as many in there playing bowling ball with the other eggs, nor stepping all over the other ones who are still trying to finish absorbing the egg yolks and are sleeping.
