I had a sad day, one of the eggs under my broody banty cracked-from the outside, not the inside, probably from the hen stepping on it. The chick was fully developed but too soon to hatch I guess and it died in my hand, a perfectly formed little black chick, probably from my Australorp or Barnvelder. But it was another learning moment for me and hope that the other eggs are developing and may hatch too.

I had 2 dozen eggs and pitched 2 right off because one was really dirty and the other had a thin shell with a light crack. So I was down to 22 when I set them. After careful candling I came up with 5 eggs either clear or with a light shadow of a yolk that was floating, so I guess that means not developing. So I have 17 left with a large dark mass and on most of them I can see veins and an embryo and on about 7 I saw movement! YAY! It's so fun
