I set this batch (9 eggs) on March 4th at night. So I am expecting hatch day to be March 24 or 25!

I started candling couple days ago and all are ok. I saw some movement today in at least 6 of them... the rest are hard to see cause they look "freckled" when I candle.

This is my second incubation experience (first one was with a homemade incubator and only one hatched). This time around I have a store bought incubator, but I am still turning the eggs by hand cause I love to candle and I just thought I could do it. Besides, is a small "trial" batch.

Depending on the success I have w/ this batch I will be setting 20 eggs right after this first hatch. Can't wait!

My eggs are due to hatch March 24. I set 27 ISA second generation eggs on March 3. All were fertilized. Lost 1 first day, lost another day 6 and I think I lost 1 more yesterday. Will be more thorough when I candle day 10. I had a few hard to see shells so I made super easy coffee can candler (LED bulb) and then I use LED flashlight with empty toilet paper roll on top of egg. The apple iPhone flashlight works great too. With the double light you can see alot.

I have 21 eggs due march 27! Some are darker brown or green so harder to candle but I think all or most are developing! We are going to need a bigger chicken coop. So excited!

Saskfarm... Just out of curiosity... how do you know the egg is lost on day 1? Is very hard to see the embryo then... By the way , thanks for the candling tips!

I didn t pull it out till day 5. But when I cracked egg open there was just the blood ring no formed embryo. The one that made it to day six was quite formed. I lost another day 7. Now I am in crisis mode because my thermometer got all screwed up. Trying to manage with cheap one till tonight. My honey in city and bringing me back a reptile one they swear is great. It sucks living in Canada have to order everything online even though we are close to Regina. I hope they make it. I will be so upset if they don t.

How's the weather there? Canada is one of my dream places to visit!!!

Hope you get a good thermometer...
My first incubation experience was w/ a homemade styrofoam container.
Just one chick hatched (out of 8) ... I used two drug store baby thermometers
and worked ok... humidity was where I messed up

I was not controlling or measuring it... most chicks died on the last stages. Lesson learned.
Please keep us POSTED!

Getting nicer 2c today. We have so much snow where I live. It is going to be so wet here this spring. Snow is as high as are barn where it drifted. I am originally from northern Mb moved here 3 years ago. I love Canada, the farm but no good fishing here like back home. Thank goodness temp stable. My hygrometer has always been bang on. I candled and they were slow moving but it was better lower temps that letting them over heat. Not touching them now till Thursday. Funny thing is we live 2 hrs from boarder and I have never been to the states. One day...

I have never seen snow... can you imagine? I live in an island that is a territory of the US but is not in the mainland. I have been to the States but never seen snow. Maybe when I visit Canada... hahaha... what breed are your Chickens?

I have ducks and geese on the 24thish. Need a hatch buddy? This is my first time with goose, 2nd time with duck, and I've forgotten how many chicks I've hatched.
Good luck with your hatch!
