Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

#4 is the only 1 I would question at this point, but I definitely wouldn't toss it yet. The rest all look to have darkening masses in the yolks. You really won't usually see much more than that in dark or colored eggs. Watch your air cells & mark them. If the air cells are getting bigger you have definite development.
Thanks! The picture of #4 isnt a very good one I think we messed with the settings of the picture too much. That is actually one of the ones we saw the veins in when we candled!

Thanks for the input we weren't too sure of our eggs lastnight after candling but a lot of people seem to be saying with marans youll just see the dark area in the yolk, which is what we saw in all ten we just couldn't get good pictures of it.

You will see the dark area getting bigger & darker unless your eggs are extremely dark. The thing to watch is the air cell. I would mark them & watch for them to enlarge. If the egg isn't developing there won't be much change in the air cell at all. (Ooops! Already said that didn't I

So thisis a picture of the new eggs we just received yesterday that we put in the bator this morning we candled to see the air sac and there was this egg and another that they looked kinda funny, what do you guys think?

Eggs are much easier to see when candled from the fat end. If you can flip it around & recandle you will be able to see the air cell much better. I can't really tell you much from this angle.

Yeah it was hard to get a good picture. but it mostly looked like the air cell may have been broken up a little we already put them into the bator so maybe later when we go to turn the other eggs we can look again

This may have been my problem too. I will have to lock that in my brain. Candle from the fat end! My eggs aren't really dark and it was hard to see much of anything. It did look like half of the egg was much darker than the other half. But wasn't able to see veins or movement or anything like that :(. I guess I will try again on day 10. Maybe it will be more obvious by then?

We did the same thing! We were thinking because of the air sac and that we had to have the point end down so now that we should do it the other way we want to candle again haha! couple more days! ahh

I have a couple pictures to share. 2 are from the incubator and the last I pulled out from under the hen. I'm assuming that the 3rd one is no good. Would you say so too? The 2nd one was also full of veins but I downloaded the wrong photo of it. The black spot in the 2nd photo sure was wiggling all over.

To me, the last one just looks like a yolk. :(

So i just wanted to update everyone on my eggs. If you can all remember, i had eggs shipped in. It took 5 days to arrive at my house and the mailman left my eggs on the concrete floor of my garage which was very cold (winter here). Last night when i broke down and candled my eggs i didn't see anything. They are Welsummer eggs, so they are very dark so i will give them a few more weeks. To make things worse i had three eggs explode in my bator. The temp is holding steady at 101 degrees (i have a still air LG). Does anyone have advice?
