Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

I have babies too! The dark one is mine. I bought the other 4 because I'm sure the other chick I lost was due to it was being alone. When 1 eats they all rush over and eat. When 1 drinks, they all drink. 2 of the new babies are Columbian Wyandottes and the other 2 are probably silkie mixes. All 5 are happy little campers. (The lone chick of mine came from 1 of my broody hens. She had left the nest and got on another. When I found it, it was laying on it's side and it's body was very cold. I brought it in and put it under the light. Bounced right back! MY luck and odds are tha

t it's a male. So, I named him Henry)

oUr two chickies are doing great this morning they have been very active all night.. they look so silly trying to run around..we took the other egg that was in lockdown out to candle and it looked like it died during lockdown

so it looks like we will only get two from the 6 that we started with but we are getting more tomorrow to put in the bator Haha!
Congrat's! I'm on pins and needles while I'm waiting for them to fully hatch.

Lockdown!!! Here starts my anxiety! Lol.
Candled last night and the 7 in the bator all had movement, and 6 under my broody all had movement as well. However, there is one under her that Im pretty sure wont hatch because, there is a massive massive air cell! My bf wanted me to throw it out cause the dark area is so small compared to the air cell, but there's a baby moving in there. So I left it under her and maybe by some miracle it could hatch.

Oh and I broke and ordered 20 chicks last night...eek!! So excited for all my babies to come! Here's to happy quickly hatching! ;-)

yah on all the chicks :)

CamiLynn - so what did you order?

I've worked out to have eggs to set on 2/15, so third time being a charm I look forward to being over run w/ a 100% hatch in time for spring!

I think we will be setting 12 eggs on Friday or Saturday! It all depends on when they get here! We are getting eggs from the same person we got our 6 mystery eggs from! I believe we are getting more golden lakenvelders and blue laced red wyandotts. I think she is also sending welsummer and barred rock eggs!!!! We can't wait to start all over again and, once we have 2 fluffy butts to take care of I think these 21 days will go even faster... Lets just hope for a better hatch rate this time around!

Just posted the same thing in anouther form soo if you read it again sorry :)

Both of them were really active during the night... You could hear them peeping and stumbling around! This morning when we woke up they were sleeping... For the most part the are all fluffed out and can walk fairly well. Both me and my fiancee are at school now so we have her mother watching them. Unfortunately I work right after classes so I won't be able to see our fluffy butts until 10:30 tonight :( . I think when my fiancee gets home from class she is going to add some water for them. She then has to go work at a daycare for a few hour but, when she gets home from work I think she is going to put them in the brooder... Our brooder is pretty simply. It's one of those big plastic Rubbermaid containers. We then have a "desk" light with a 60 watt bulb that sits about 3 feet above the brooder. We had it set up all day yesterday and our highest temp was 97 and that was right under the light and the lowest temp was 86 which was in the other corner. Do you guys think that this will work??? Anyother advice for us??? :)

They are barnyard mix covered by black English orphington and BLRW Roos, w amerucana, EE, black copper Marans, and BLRW hens. It was my first order of shipped eggs so I didn't spend but $20 total for 16 eggs to include shipping.

What beautiful colors! They are so cute!

We set 28 eggs this morning! Here we go, round two! We also have a broody hen that has been sitting on eggs for 7 days now. I have this strange suspicion that she is stealing eggs from the other nest boxes. Everyday there are more that I have to remove. How would a hen "steal" eggs. I haven't seen any of the other hens laying in her box. She hardly leaves it herself.
