Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

OK...I'm SOOOOOO bad!!! My last 4 batches of chicks have bombed, so I ordered babies from Ideal & Meyers BOTH

Now watch, since I have almost 250 birds coming or already here I'll get a 100% hatch on the 39 quail & 40 chicken eggs that are already in the bator plus all of my extra bantams that don't get shipped tomorrow from the past week that I'll be setting (+/- 20 eggs).

Yep, you are pretty bad! Or have a pretty bad addiction to chickens! LOL

Luckily (or unluckily) my BF is almost as bad as I am, so no complaints from him

Same here! It's hard not to let chicken math take over! I keep seeing pics of adorable blue/gray silkies and doing research on some other breeds and have to keep telling myself.... there isn't room for another coop, there isn't room for another coop... there isn't room.... welllll.....

That is hilarious! Such a great idea. Do you have pics? I think my DH would kill me if I tried to house grown chickens in the house. I am though debating on on day turning part of the garage into a coop

He would be soooo made I already have so many coops and plan to make a few more.

What a crazy couple of days, seems like it's catching. I've been spending the weekend with my poor gimpy dog who got hit by a car, his leg/pelvis went under the tire buct luckly our dirt road is very wet and squishy so nothing broke. His hip was dislocated, the vet said it went back in well. He'll have the leg tied up in a sling wrap for the next week and we'll hope for the best!
oh, not good. But as said later, at least this way perhaps he will stop getting too close to cars.

I'm so sorry about your dog. Those cars are so unforgiving. Our's was hit and killed just a couple months ago. I normally don't let him out front as cars think it's a race track, so it was my fault but you'd think someone could have stopped. We were home.
Very sorry to hear about that. Yes, you would think they would have had <whatever you want to call it> to at least let you know. A simple , "I'm terribly sorry to have to tell you but there was an accident..." Not saying that would have been easy, but it would have been the right thing to do!

So, today I picked up my very own (used but works) LG.
So of course I'll be setting it asap.

If both remaining pigs sell tomorrow then the electric cord &space they are using will be turned into a place to put it for the 1st run, (right beside the borrowed one which is atm DAY #3 ) . I got a Jersey Giant pullet today also, she has been laying, & if this move isn't too tramatic & she lays this wk, the eggs are going in the bator, she was temp. housed w/ a very nice SFH Roo, decent sized, looked similar to a Speckled Sussex, it is a weird mutt cross, but I'm told the JG eggs are already huge & she started laying pretty young so I figure these would be good barnyard layers and rather pretty, & well of course I do have to fill the bator to keep temps even, right... ;O

& typing of chicken math -- tomorrow the Peacock arrives for my DH, yep that one that claims not to like birds.
HIS peacock arrives tomorrow LOL!

Well, I traded a box of chickies for THIS last night & it will be replacing 5 of my wire breeder cages in the basement this week. I currently just have a 3 tier stack cage with the plastic pans between each level (it will be staying) & a bunch of wire cages stacked with bricks & feed bags between them (most of these are going). I currently have 12 cages of birds (counting 1 of quail) in 3 rooms of my basement.

Here you can see part of my cages stacked in the basement.

'm sure it's been posted somewhere but exactly how long after setting eggs do they start to vein. I have 3 out of 11 that have been in the bator over a week and have wonderful veins and some movement. The other 8 have absolutely nothing. Are they not viable? Thanks. Sue
