Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

I've had a very hard time finding a thermometer that is accurate. I probably have 8 - 10 of them and NOT ONE reads the same. Im down with the flu bug and running a fever of 102 so I bought a thermometer yesterday. I'm thinking I'll put it in a baggie and use it.

I hate to admit this but I'd probably carry the incubator and eggs inside to the new location. I have a Little Giant so it would be easier to carry. Now everyone is saying ohhhh, no wonder she has trouble with incubations! lol (Not really)

Yesterday was day 21 for my Silkie eggs. One pipped, then nothing. This morning I woke up to the same, a couple hours later I see it's progressing. I'm tellin' ya, my Marans pip and then kaboom they are out. Never saw anything like it. These slow hatches are hard on my nerves.

Somehow my bator got turned up to 120F. Not sure how long it was that way as I'm short a thermometer & have to move them from bator to bator to check temps. Everything was dead. I really HAVE to get another thermometer today when I hit Rural King for feed.

Flu is no good at all, even if your fever is about right on for egg incubation ; /

The one Maran I had hatch naturally was like you say, never saw or head of anything like it, nothing then so fast I couldn't believe it and never slowed down, she is growing so fast, I'm hopeful for eggs this late summer...

So is anyone else going to be seeing this snowstorm tonight on here? We are supposed to get 6 to 8 maybe more crazy!!!!

So sorry! Having eggs in there that long amd have that happen is so disappointing!

wow sorry to hear that :(

I had a small temp. spike myself in the LG w/ all the important eggs right after I candled them sunday eve I woke up w/ a bad feeling at 4am & found it,
not sure how long but the eggs felt hot the bator was maybe 104 , I got them cooled fast but I haven't had the heart to re-candle since, I had to move them all Mon afternoon
& I still couldn't bring myself to check, LD is tonight so I will grit my teeth & hope as I do a candle & see if I should bother w/ LD or go cry in a corner...
104 isn't so bad. Mine have survived spikes to 116 for short periods. 120 for a full 24 hrs or better was just too much.

It was more than 3 weeks, more like 4 since everything was running late from temps averaging way low for the 1st 3 weeks, then the stupid thing spikes on me & kills the few survivors I had left.

I finally got my guts up & made time to candle, good news !!! I saw movement in 9 eggs, true there are 39 eggs in question but most are too dark to see anything w/ my flashlight system so based on seeing 9 alive possibly the temp spike was caught quickly and all is well so I will finally finally have a decent hatch. I had to tweek the temp up in the hatcher, so I'm NOT risking them in there overnight, I will move them in for LD tomorrow & watch it like your best broody hen til I have chicks to move to the brooder. (yah the new brooder I will be making tomorrow, if we can find the matterial now under a layer of ice & snow...electrical stay on electrical stay on), I will be Soooo happy when the worst problem is keeping the brooder clean for all these chicks who have hatched.

Finally got the Golden Lakenvelder photos on the computer.
I didn't hatch these, just posting for comparison , these are at about 2 weeks in pics.

these closeups show the black line face mark I was wondering about, it is on both sides, & both chicks so I'm wondering if it is on a Golden Lakenvelder chicks

& just b/c here is the picture of our very 1st ever Turkey egg layed TODAY (Bourbon Red) on left, my jumbo Buckeye egg on right

Quote: Love it! Congrats on the 1st turkey egg. Only 1 Silkie egg hatched. I'm happy with 1 but unsure why there weren't more. Temps were perfect, humidity was good too. Eggtopsies will either be tonight or tomorrow night. I'll post an ipad picture later. Do you know if your Lakenvelders are hens or roo's?
