Hatch-Along - setting eggs tonight or tom who's with me on this

so just curious after they pip a hole how long before you intervene if no zipping? 24 hrs? do they dry out and stick to the shell after so long?

From what I read, if you are planning on reproducing the chicken (hatching eggs from that particular pullet), then you may not want to help it out. Personally, I think I'd help it out regardless and pray that I am not in that situation but know that anything can happen. Please remember I've never done this, like the blind leading the blind.

Someone else may have better advice but seems like people try to keep the humidity up. Maybe a few cracks to get things moving may help but you risk loosing the humidity everytime you open the incubator. I would turn off the fan prior to opening the incubator and maybe spray the walls or anywhere where it would not contact the egg to really boost up the humidity.

Please let me know what you try out and if it works. Wishing you best of luck!

Had the Mareks vaccine shipped to me yesterday and could have sworn that I ordered the syringes/needles at the same time. The vaccine and dilutent bottles came yesterday but not the syringes/needles. I wasn't charged for them. In any rate, found some locally that I can use thank god.

Everyone else planning to vaccinate?

I know I started my lockdown yesterday afternoon but the suspense is killing me!!! Does anyone know if there is such a thing as EGG FEVER.

The difference is that I am doing the dry incubation method.

I just had 7 hatch on me today - I did dry as well. I kept it around 40% then bumped it up to 65% on day 18 and we've been having pretty good luck.....one of them did need assistance but I think there is something wrong with her so I'm not counting her. I've got 5 more pipped. I have been pulling my chicks out once they dry and putting them in the brooder tote - the humidity drops but comes back up fairly quickly - ooh, and I'm using a homemade incubator......out of an old styrofoam cooler, if that helps......with no fan, just a thermostat.

Poor thing chirps almost constantly for some companions. Hopefully the 3 eggs from my favorite banty will hatch in the next couple of days to keep it company cause I can't hardly stand it.

My chick waited til the middle of the night to hatch. It looks like its going to be black laced. I'm afraid it is going to be a lonesome little fella though. I peeked at the other 4 eggs & can't see any movement & the veins have dried up. I am so disgusted with shipped eggs.
awww so cute! put a teddy bear in there for it to snuggle on! my babies seem to like to burrow under the arms of the one I put in there.

Christy- Here is a GREAT link that answers every question for when to help.

Hey, Rob! I have lots of cheeping and one pip on one of my daughters BLRWs. It is a new breed for us and I really hope to get a pullet from this batch, the eggs look like dinosaur eggs. Creamy pink with light purplish spots
