Hatch-Along - setting eggs tonight or tom who's with me on this

I'm just wondering if I did something wrong. I mean were my temps off, humidity? I also made my own incubator so I'm just wondering if I just didn't do something right, or maybe I just SUCK at all of it! HAHA. I said I would be happy if just 1 hatched, but It's going to suck if only 1 does hatch, or worse - NONE!!!

I can't remember off hand but were your eggs shipped? There was such a difference between my "home laid" eggs and my shipped eggs. I still have 6 shipped eggs that made it to lockdown at haven't pipped etc. I only hear chirping in one of them.

Wishing you best of luck, hopefully something will happen.

figured I would amuse everyone with some dried off fluffy balls of cuteness!

LOL, I want one of those now.)

they are just too adorable!

enjoy them.

Is your hatch done or are you still waiting on some?

Hickchick- I am also hatching BLRW yours is unbelievably fluffly! Love it!

I have 5 chicks so far, today is day 21. 2 are hatching now and a few pips. None of the wonky air cells have done anything yet

Thanks so much Cindy. I'm up to 10 right now, not sure if the other 6 will make it. Hardest thing for me is to NOT do anything. You still waiting on any?

Here we are Day 22, no pips, no ricking eggs but I picked up one and heard peeping (only heard it in one) sigh

Any updates?

I was the same was. My last egg (porcelain) took forever to start zipping. I finally sat down to watch a tv show with my husband and decided if she didn't hatch on her own before the show was over I was gonna help. To my suprise as we stood to go help I heard her chirping loudly chilling out of the egg. She knew I was coming...and I meant business

The egg that I saw motion in and heard chirps is no longer chirping/moving.

i candled the rest and don't see motion or hear anything either....

i decided to float test the rest...all float just above the surface of the water but none were "rocking"

i can't see internal pips.

Now what do I do? 5 are white leghorn eggs, 1 is a back copper maran.

I'm a few hours into day 23, 1 of my eggs hatched on day 20 and 9 a few hours later on day 21.

is there any utility to creating an artificial pip to "take a look". Or do you think this hatch is pretty much over?

Rob, I am in the same boat. No rocking in float test but no bobbing or sinking either. No internal pipping, no noise or rocking. I put them back in until the end of day 24

I lost one tonight due to failure to thrive and had a dismal hatch considering what I expected. You may say I counted my chickens before they hatched

I soothed my disappointment by going and buying a bunch of started pullets today to fill the gaps. That, and ice cream, should do the trick!

heres the link given to me earlier in the week...very useful to decide when to help out and how. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching

Thanks Cindy and Christy,

ive checked out the link

ive also posted on Sally Sunshine's page for advice....

still looks like no sign of life.....no motion on candling, no pips internal or external. No motion on float test last night. I recandled and tapped today and still nothing.

think I may re float test to help reevaluate for motion tonight. If nothing still, then considering artificial pip to get a better look inside. Again, if I see any sign of life then I'm comfortable waiting.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Loving my new little ones.

As far a I can tell I have 4 Boys and 6 girls but I'm no expert at feather sexing.

Only 1 of the 8 hatched. And I think he has a broken leg! He walks really funny. Here's a video. His right leg is even popped out too. I took a video of him walking, but I can't upload it here for some reason. But He will hop on his left leg while the right one stays poked out.

No these were my own Buff Orpington's Eggs. MY husband and I decided a few things will be different with our next hatch though. I think 3 or 4 died in lockdown, so I did something wrong there!!
