Hello everyone.
Sorry for not updating yesterday but I’m still processing the news and trying not to be angry. Dirt is still with us. Our vets partner came out to euthanize him. He asked the diagnosis and dirt was moving a little better as he was on the new pain medicine that was prescribed until one of them came out. He then performed his own examination and asked if x-rays had been performed. They had not so he took some with his portable one. Dirt does have laminitis but only in the 2 front feet not all 4 like we were told. His bones have also not rotated yet. This is now treatable. We are giving him a chance to pull through this. He gets worse or the bones do rotate we are done. Right now the bute paste twice a day has him comfortable . Honestly this really is a day by day situation and there is no guarantee he will pull through. My boy has a chance though. I am praying Dirt the Jerk rears his gorgeous head and kick’s laminitis butt.
I wish I were closer, I have a set of boots I used on Lulu, they worked great. And easier than shoes and pads (nailed on).
It’s great that his coffin bone hasn’t rotated, that’s the big thing.
Ok so feed - have you stopped grain? I used an extruded chunk feed for Lulu and others who had laminitis, grass hay…. No exercise until he is better.
Now also has the vet mentioned using an antihistamine in conjunction with the Bute to help with reducing blood flow to the feet…?
Ok well I am betting your Vet made all the suggestions. I am rooting for the big ol boy
