I have my sponges ready

to help me raise the humidity starting tonight when I go into lock down. I am so nervous. This will be the first time for me having silkie babies.

Fingers crossed we all have a good hatch.

Getting ready for lockdown now... and just found out we may get ANOTHER late season snowstorm.

dretd- I think Colorado can thank us for putting eggs in the incubator. Maybe if I wash my car we'll get two feet.

I know what you mean regarding the cold. It snowed today in Green Bay, WI. I have 15 shipped eggs arriving from Minnesota on 4/24, and have only hatched local eggs in the past. I am hoping for even 5 of 15 to hatch. I will so disappointed to have none hatch. Keeping my fingers crossed. Hatch shoudl be mid May.. :)

I also am a Wisconsinite...Green Bay.....I am awaiting 15 eggs from Minnesota on 4/24. Have never hatched SHIPPED eggs...only local...so I will see how much the postal service "scrambles" my eggs. Am nervous and excited both. Just joined this site ,,,and love it.

Hatch day April 26 and we are going into lockdown now? I thought lockdown was on day 18? Did I miss something? I would hate to wait too long to raise humidity and end up with stuck chicks! Then again...I hate to raise humidity too early and end up with drowned chicks...help?

Sorry for the confusion, I ended up setting mine the night of the 4th so for me, day 18 started at about 7:30 p.m. tonight. As far as I understand the day 18 thing isn't exact, it has more to do with how much weight the eggs have lost and the position of the aircells.

Speaking of which, my aircells looked really good and several were dipping down to the side already. My eggs were pretty close to the target weight loss, too, so I've locked them down and now just waiting for the humidity to stabilize.

I culled 1 more egg, the one that I thought was dead last time, and it definitely stopped developing a while ago. I think there's still 1 clear one in there (but I'm not positive because the shell's so dark,) and 3 that were developing upside down -- so I don't have high hopes for those 4. The others looked pretty good!

Lockdown pictures are up on my blog, and I've also started up the hatch cam to do a live stream. Nothing much happening yet, but maybe they'll start rolling around soon: www.homegrowngourmet.org/hatch-cam

Quote: Welcome! Can't wait to see what you hatch. I bet those white rock mixes will be lovely birds.
I'm doing a bunch of EE mixes also. Looks like we'll both have a single comb in the mix, which I *think* should give us an easy way to tell which offspring get the blue egg gene. I'd like to compare results on that in 6 months or so!
Lockdown here.... some were due yesterday and are starting to rock... some are due wed 4/24... I know staggered hatch for first time hatching not smart but hopefully I didn't mess it up too bad.

Put mine in lock down last night. I have had a steady temp of 99.5 with 35% humidity. When I put them in lock down, I have 70% humidity but the temperature is at 97.7 - should I mess with the temp to get it back up to 99.5?
