I have 25 in the homemade bator. Yesterday I candled and about 1/2 looked clear and the other half seemed to have nice spiders in them. Today, only 2 have spiders. The rest have died. I don't know what to think. Help me!

it could have to do with the age of the parents....
how old is the roo??? or are they shipped egge vers.
i had a very low hatch rate when i first put my hens eggs in the bator, he was only 10 weeks old and was allready mating his gals so i put 20 eggs in the bator only seven eggs hatched, and they were very small compared to an egg that i had got from my neighbour.
i hope that helps you.

Well, I am not giving up yet. I still see veins in many of them, just not as much as I expected and in many I had seen the little embryo and now can't. But today, it looks like there is quiet a bit of veining in many of them still. I will just keep watching the temps which seem to be more stable now. Someone on another thread said I should give them until day 14 before I give up on them.

As far as the roo. Hmm. I don't know how old he is. His owner purchased him from Jean (Pips & Peeps) as a full grown roo, so he must be at least a year old. The little ladies were born last year about this time, but the eggs are all medium to very large. The marans eggs are jumbo! But all three of them are not looking very promising.

We will see...

Yesterday, I was feeling pretty disheartened. I ate waaaayy too much chocolate trying to feel better. Not good. Today, I am feeling better. If I lose them, I lose them. I will chalk it up to a learning experience, adjust, and buy more eggs. I feel challenged. Like, this will not beat me!! I will figure it out!

Thanks for the support!! I am watching and cheering for your hatches!

If anyone candles, post pics!! I love candling pics!

Out of 18 eggs that were shipped to me, I have 8 with little swimmers in them. These are the bbs orpingtons. My husband has 8 salmon faverolles but he wants to candle them himself

My son has 17 assorted silkies and I see veining in most of those, but I don't think they were packaged well because when we got the box of 18, one was broke

A couple of them, the air sac is moving around and you can see lots of loose bubbles. Still watching them. They were put in 4 days after my orpington eggs. It's neat to look at those though because its alot easier to see than in the darker orpington eggs. I could even see a little flutter last night like the heart beat. Very cool! Good luck everyone and hope we all have a great hatch day!
