Hatch complete, PICS page 5

If you think the baby is getting too exhausted, you may want to help just a bit on Ginger's, depends on your philosophy of helping them out. That is the first one of hers that's ever hatched, so I dont know what to expect like I do with Caroline's babies. This is Day 22, right? The Blue Orps never pop out early. They seem to drag out till the end of Day 21 for the most part.

I may try to help in a little bit. I want to wait for the blue orp to hatch before I open the bator. I don't see any other pips so if Ginger's baby hasn't hatched before the blue orp I will see what I can do.

Yes, day 22 starts in a few minutes. So technically they are still fine. I just have to figure out how to get them to hatch in a smaller window of time.

Always a hard call with whether to help them or not. I've never had much success with helping. Seems like if they're too weak to make it out, they're too weak to survive. My hatch has been drug out too....one hatched on day 20 and then the rest didn't make their appearance until well into day 21 and one this morning early on day 22. I've got two more pipped last night. I've come to the conclusion that they're like human babies and that even tho they give us a due date, most times the baby doesn't come that day!! Good luck with the rest.

Ok, hatch is complete. 8 eggs made it to day 18.
What hatched:
2 blue orp x buff brahma
1 ameraucana
1 blue orp

The blue orp just hatched. I helped Ginger's along a little, but it's very weak so I am not holding out a lot of hope. I'm sad about it because I really wanted to see what it turned out like (It looks mostly buff with a few black feathers). I quick candled the last three eggs and there is no movement. They had the weirdest shaped air cells I have ever seen, so I am going to assume that is what caused them to quit. Overall I think it went pretty well for my first shipped eggs. I'll take some pics later today after I move them to a brooder.

Don't count that baby out yet, Sara. I've had one lay there shaking for almost 24 hours, then suddenly, I couldnt tell which one had the problem. Just let it gain its land legs slowly in the bator. Congrats! What was the total I sent you? And those aircells were from shipping, but not necessarily the problem. I've had those and they hatched just fine. Unless they're detached, that really shouldn't be a problem.

10 eggs, 2 were clear. The rest had made it to day 18. I plan to run a batch of my own eggs through in about a month and see if I can further figure out if I am doing anything wrong.

My hatch seems to be slow going, too, but I'm sure it's because I'm so anxious... I just hit day 21.

The two Blue Orp/Brahma crosses are hatched and fluffed out, the one Ameraucana is getting a bigger pip, but no zipping yet and I have a pip in one Blue Orp. Woo Hoo! Sara, we do seem to be following the same hatching order. How funny is that? Speckledhen, you have your eggs well-trained.

I think things will move right along now that it is day 21, but I've struggled with the humidity for this hatch and the one right before bacause of the goofy weather here, cold, then downright freezing, then sunny, then snow, rain, etc... so I'm glad to see things progressing.

What is this? Some sort of splash orpington?

I had to turn of my flash so the baby is actually lighter than it looks in this picture. It's like a white/silver color. Maybe light blue. Like I said the picture makes it look darker than it is.

Ginger's baby is still alive, and unless it is my imagination, s/he is actually getting stronger.

I opened the 3 other eggs, and they must have died right about the time I put them in the hatcher, fully formed, yolk sacks not absorbed.
