Cyn, thanks for the info on the difference in the Blue Orps versus the crosses and the info regarding blue versus silver on the Ameracauna. If I'm going to raise them, I should at least get the basics right!

Sara, don't feel bad about the chick you lost, seems like their are some you just can't help no matter what you try. I know, it still hurts. :aww Yes, we will have to share pictures as they grow. It will be fun to see how they develope.

There are silver Ameraucanas, but the hens have interesting patterns, reminiscent of a Silver Phoenix hen, IMO. Here's a photo of a Silver Ameraucana hen:

Sara, sorry you lost the chick. My slow little Buff Orp died this morning too. Just never got her legs under her. I've got a marans I probably should cull, but I'm giving her one more day.

got my first egg from her today, or so I thought --- then checked the coop and found another BURIED under grass and dirt ... very dirty, she must have laid it a couple of days ago --- I was looking for my White Rock's daily egg when I found it, in the same nest the WR uses ... and I bet the WR is the one who buried it under kicked dirt ! not half an hour after I removed the EE's egg, the WR laid her own brown one there ...

this is the gal who was so enamored of my roo, that she dug a hole clear under the coop to get out to be with him ... they have been parading everywhere all over the property; today's egg was right next to the site where the black hen has been laying, but not IN her nest ...

EE is definitely a blue-green egg layer !

Katy, sorry to hear about your Buff Orp and hoping things are going better for the maran. I have a little gold sex-link chick from the second incubator that just can't seem to get her legs working right, but she is the most determined little chick ever scooting around where she needs to be, I just have to give her a chance. Like you, I'm going to give her another day or two to see how she does.
