Hatch date Jan 9th! documenting my own eggs *PICTURES!!!!!! NOW*pg 8

From the fist time you collect your egg you need to invert it. Large side up. This is where the eggs air sack is.
Also when hatching it needs to be inverted. ALWAYS large side up.

I used egg cartons first time with great success. Second time laid them down - never again! It was so easy to clean up, eggs didn't get rolled like soccer balls, much better hatch rate with the cartons for me. I use they styrefoam ones with a little hole poked thru the bottom with the sissors easy peasy.

Wait for it....wait for it! It's going to happen.
Maybe that's where the term "a watched pot never boils" came from? Some old ma and pa chicken farmer?

I have a chick!!!! mom EE dad Favorelle! shes blonde and wet:) I just got home from work and I have a chick and 7 pipping!!!! woo hoo--better get the brooder light on and warmed-pictures later tonight! All 3 of my olive eggs are pipping!!!!! silkie too:) yeahhhh

Well we haven't had any chicks hatch yet but we are being patient.
I do have a question though. About how long after a chick starts 'zipping' should it be finished? We had our second pip last night at about 9:45, and then this morning around 10 started in like an olympic athlete working his way around that shell. He made it about 2/3 of the way around and then stopped. We can see a good portion of him, see him breathing and his beak, etc. but he just seems to be resting? Does that sound normal?

very normal, this way with 2/3 zipped they have adequate amount of air to breath normal so they use this time to soak up any left over yoak and to just take a breather before their final push to freedom
