Hatch date Jan 9th! documenting my own eggs *PICTURES!!!!!! NOW*pg 8

I used an egg carton for my first hatch, and it seemed like they had a pretty easy time getting out of their shells. In fact, every viable egg I had hatched!

Did you leave empty spaces between them, or just put them in next to each other? I've got one paper pulp carton, and one styrofoam. If I leave spaces between I'll use the styrofoam, and cut holes on the bottom. I think LOL

What??? Leave them in the egg cartons???? That's the first time I heard that. I thought they had to lay sideways.....

Okay so after some refiguring, I thought my eggs were due the 9th, but they are due the 8th.

And OMG, I just heard some peeping!!!! I am so exited! My kids are home today because of the weather, and they're calling me the crazy chicken lady because I was squealing and clapping like a dork!!!

Editing to ask, how long after peeping sounds should I expect them to start hatching?

I left some empty spaces, but I only had 7 eggs. The two who were right next to each other did just fine though. I cut most of the bottom of of each cup part so that the carton laid nice and flat. I was paranoid that the whole thing would tip over or something!

Here are a couple of threads about hatching in a carton...

They all did make 5$ bets on how many would hatch though.

I know what I'm going to do with the cartons. I'll spread em out between two cartons. I have 12 eggs, maybe 10.

Cute. I was thinking about doing a little lottery of time blocks, let the kids guess when the first one would pip. I think I saw someone else do that and instead of shelling out money, they got to name the chick.

I checked on my eggs this morning, and saw some movement while the eggs were still in the turner. I decided it's officially lockdown. I put them in their egg cartons, and upped the humidity. After that was all said and done, I even heard a muffled chirp.

Hopefully all goes well, and I'll at least a little more hatch than last time.
