Do you candle every day? And do you open you bator al the way or go threw window? Earlier I was going threw the window but I kept burning myself amd thought that might cause me to brake an egg so i opened the bator all the way up, and left it off till I was done candling.

i candle everyday with the lid open, but close it on each egg i candle, i dnt leave it open, i only candle once a day. trying not to let it last 15 min. mother hen leaves her nest for 15 min a day to eat, so it dnt hurt to open it everyday as long as u do it once. and going through the window u risk hurting urself or breaking the egg. the eggs i posted earlyer today were from a differnt bator at my grandparents.

Gotcha, we didn't have them out for long it just took awhile to get the temp right again. Guess I'll know for sure tomorrow when I candle hopefully they are still all moving!

Well today I was given another dozen eggs, these are Australorps with some possibly crossed with silkie. Sadly 4 of them were cracked, but I only had 8 spaces left in my bator so kinda worked out okay.
Now can anyone please suggest what I should mark the eggs with? I have other brown eggs in the bator and want to be able to tell which ones to move to my old bator when lockdown comes. I wouldn't trust myself to remember correctly where I put them all!

No do you mean take one out, close lid, candle, put back/take out another and repeat, or take them all out, put lid on, candle all then put all back? LOL i know just wanting to make sure I do this right tomorrow and don't loose the heat

Scoopy-most people here mark them with a pencil, I'm no expert but I would do a number system to indicate the stages they are in
