Hatch On Dates: Oct-nov? Dont Forget About This Post!!!

Day 19 here of my first incubation, and I'm just about to explode with antici.....pation.

Lockdown started yesterday. At that time most of the eggs were developing a nice dip in the aircell (including all of the Australorps), but there were two or three holdouts among the Barnevelders which still had quite small, symmetrical air cells. The chicks in there were moving about, though, so they've been developing. Should I expect those ones to fail at hatch time?

Before you ask, I have no idea, really, what my humidity has been, because I reckon this cheap combo digital thermo/hygrometer is dodgy-dodgy on the hygrometer side of things! I'm using a Janoel fan-forced manual-turn octagonal incubator, outer channel filled every two days in the first 18 days, both channels filled at lockdown. The dodgy hygrometer has been reading pretty steady around 50% no matter what I do!

It made it, went down this morning and it was out with another one pipping. By this afternoon there were two barred rocks and tonight I seen a light sussex in there which hadnt long come out. She is doing such a fab job. Its pretty hard to see much of the whole process as it is all happening underneath here although she has been pretty good with me having a look under her wings. I would love to see zipping. I'm going to try do candling next time we get in fertilised eggs.

It is fine, I would leave it alone, they turn in a complete circle while zipping, so it will be facing down at some point anyway. It just impedes your enjoyment of watching the progress

I bet it has hatched by this time anyway. Hope it made it.

Don't forget about us daddies!!

You could be a 300 pound weightlifter with pecs of steel, and to those chicks, you are still going to be a Mommy!

One of my americauna's pipped this AM and is chirping in its shell! If it goes well, it'll be my first incubation and my first ever chicken. Very excited!
