Hatch out in a carton or on the wire?

All the large hatchers, you just lay the eggs flat in the hatching trays.
Only way I see using carton to hatch in, would help. It keep the eggs at the same level as they were in a turner. This would help in a still air incubator only.
NO, chicks moving the eggs around does NOT hurt the hatch.
All that said, if it works for you good. I just dont see how it helps. Do what works for you.

Can you hatch in plastic egg cartons or are they bad? Thanks, -Jay And I am not using it on hatching time due to info I have read. But I am in no position to tell someone not to do it if it works for them. So with that said, Goodluck

Well, I have hatched for years as is noted by the Tuff"old"hen part! I don't use a water wiggler, don't use a 1588, don't use kitchen shelfing liner, don't use the egg cartons, I don't open the bators on hatch day and I don't help out chicks never have had too. The eggs get knocked around like a football camp at times on the wire! I use cheap old thermometer/hygrometers from Wallyworlds as some have called them cheap. I do have a Bemis I paid $$ for and find it totally worthless. I have 100 % hatches on shipped eggs at times and 100% hatches from my eggs.
The only thing I can add is I have great friends here that use the methods listed above and they like how they have great hatches with good results! I like my friends!!! So what works for one might not work for another and I won't change my ways and I know they won't change theirs. It's what works best for you at your house!!!

So let me get this right....I put my eggs in the turner (fat side down or up?) for 18 days.
On day 18, I take them out and put them Fat Side UP in the egg carton (with a hole in each bottom) until day 23 or more?
This was a great thread for me to find...DH wants to start some eggs asap, and I have been hesitant because I don't feel I know enough.
One more question...a friend of ours is going to give us some eggs also, how long do I have from laying to putting egg in the incubator do I have? Do I need to keep them warm?

I do hatch in a carton also. I will never hatch again with the eggs on the incubator floor. I have found that the chicks have an easier and faster time getting out of the shell. Plus it makes clean-up so much easier.

I hatched 8 out of 9 first time on the field..LOL
was I excited...
on the wire with paper towel
and shelf liner on top of the towels.
