Hatch out in a carton or on the wire?

Yes, the 'bator soccer' got them kicked out of my bedroom. I love hearing them hatch, but the last batch--little monsters! They all hatched between 1 and 4 am and I had to go to work the next morning. (lesson learned there, I set to hatch on Friday evenings now!)

Between the zip crunching and soccer, I was exhausted.

I have noticed that it seems like if an egg gets rolled off to the side, sometimes the chick seems to have trouble kicking clear.

This chick (still in the shell) is the one that left a yolk behind... the one I'm sure would've drown if it were on it's side..

OH, dear. I just laid all mine on the wire. Now I am wondering if I should put them in cartons?? But that would mean opening the bator. I just took them out of the turner this morning.

WHAT TO DO??

If it were me...I would get the cartons ready and get the patient hubby or one of the kids to help me make the swap...fast...

I'm a total believer now... I will say one thing though... if I incubated them on their sides, I might question if this was a good idea, but I'm certain that with the turners.. it's best to leave them in the same position they grew in.

I have a chick! And now I am wondering, it looks like as soon as he gets strong, he will be tall enough to run into the element if he is on the other eggs. I have a LG incubator. Will he burn himself?

Oh twigg,- how can you still be a naysayer with all of this warm fuzzy 'my little darling might have died without the carton' talk?

Have you tried it yet???? I think you should write a byc paper on the subject! A true scientific analasys.

I think you need to get a carton out of you kitchen right now and hatch yourself some eggs!

I believe you'll find a good number of people on BYC who have been hatching this way and have had improved results with it......seems like Twigg is the only one on here dead set against doing it that way. I don't think you have to have someone do a research paper on a new way of doing something to find out it works well. I don't know why it bothers him so much.
